I'm open minded. I don't think we need an all world DC to field a better defense than what Golding did. We need a good teacher, who plays to the strengths of his personnel and who communicates defensive concepts easily.

no they dont have the final say. Sankey does? A show cause is issue by the NCAA and that would be hard to deal with. People stayed away from BP but AU pulled the trigger with about 6 months left on it but had a lot of things to deal with

I assume this one?

quote:

With one college football source this week in Charlotte, N.C., at the AFCA Convention calling Armstrong “perhaps a young Kirby Smart,” it’s a notion that might not be that far-fetched.

quote:

Armstrong has coached under both Smart and Dan Lanning during his graduate assistant days at Georgia and includes shared history at NCAA Division II program West Georgia with other notable coaches, including Cody Kennedy and Josh Aldridge – both of whom have broken through the coaching ranks to emerge as two of the top offensive and defensive coaches, respectively, in FBS ball.

Would agree if he was being hired to be DC. I don't think that is the case.

The problem is im sure Saban wants a guy who will stay for multiple years. Seems that these guys probably are looking for a head coach position or will be very soon.

In my opinion a key aspect in any upcoming coaching hire on the defense by Saban is to bring Pruitt back on staff in whatever capacity (on-field or off).

The reason being that Pruitt can then be eased into the DC role in the future once our next DC (whether this is Schumann or Leonhard) moves to a HC job in the future. Having Pruitt on staff to step into the DC role in the future creates a fantastic safety net (much like having Muschamp on staff did for UGA when Lanning left). Moreover, it will stabilize the DC position for years to come, as it seems unlikely that Pruitt will be able to land a head coaching job in the future.

Just saw a Tweet from Schumann showing him out on the recruiting trail for UGA. Take from that what you will.

I really hope this doesn't drag out and we know who the new DC is soon. I can't imagine Saban doesn't already have his guy lined up.

I would be shocked if Saban doesn't have the DC lined up, but what may cause a delay is if he wants to wait to see what the NCAA does to Pruitt.

Pruitt would be my guy first, and a close second would be schuman. I like the idea of a young smart guy that had anything to do with that GA defense. They are a nasty bunch.

Exactly. We should know by now that Saban is not an amateur. And if last season was torture for us, it must have been hell for him. I'm pretty sure he's had a plan in place for some time now.

You’re an idiot if you think Golding left Alabama and Saban was surprised or unprepared to replace him.
