I read the footballscoop article. It pretty clearly said "a position on staff".

He's a ILB coach with DC experience in FBS. I think it's possible that we are considering hiring him to coach ILB and be a co-DC and hire Leohnard as DC (play calling DC) and coach safeties. That way, the DC is involved with ILB through the co-OC, and Armstrong can learn for 2-3 years under Leonhard before Leonhard moves on to be a head coach somewhere.

That is just complete dot connecting by me, but it seems to make a lot of sense.

I hear you, and I’m definitely on board with the thinking (not that I would absolutely hate Armstrong as DC or anything), but as you mentioned, he’s an ILB guy and the rumors are that’s what he’s coming in as… and we all know Saban’s history with ILB coaches and the DC role. Maybe breaking the mold though - who knows?

Pruitt has to get through compliance so that’s why I’m hearing Schumann first choice.

schumann would be fine with me. that would leave muschamp as dc at uga. unlike most folks, ive never been particularly impressed with muschamp as a dc.

Perhaps Armstrong is coming in to fill Charles Kelly’s vacancy?

Austin Armstrong has been hired for an on the field position, don’t know much about him but is getting HEAVY praise from analyst.

T-Rob might be named DB coach, Armstrong ILB coach, and the new DC not have an assigned position.

He hasn't done it at Bama, but at LSU Muschamp was just the DC, while Kirk Doll was the ILB coach.

I think he's an ILB coach so he's probably taking over that position from Golding.

Just saw a Tweet from Schumann showing him out on the recruiting trail for UGA. Take from that what you will.

Schumann Tweet

I don't take much from it one way or the other. Charles Kelly recruited for Bama while he was being hired by Colorado, and still did a little even after he was hired by them.

Schumann is co-dc for a reason.

He’s Co-DC because that’s the way it’s always been since Tucker left in 2018. Kirby just likes 2 guys. Lanning was hired by Oregon as a Co-DC.

I’m surprised Schu has stayed with us this long. Not only is he DC of one of the consistently best defenses in CFB. He’s also the ILB coach. He’s produced 4 Butkus Finalists (and 2 winners) in just 7 years. Every LB that’s started under him has been drafted. That’s about as good a résumé as any other position coach out there.

Maybe but UGA isn't short on talent and the schedule is usually not challenging.

The jury is out on Lanning as hc.

Pruitt or Schumann for me. Both would be excellent hires.

Schumann wants to be a head coach there's no need for him to leave UGA. Leonhard's wife doesn't want to leave Wisconsin.

Shaft…. I don’t care either way but just a couple years ago you were on of the best posters on this board …especially with takes from LA on recruiting or coaching news . Are you still the same poster? . You seem so negative now and that was so unlike you a short time ago … maybe I am drunk but

Pruitt then Schuman would be my picks

+1

Give me the guy that's proven in the SEC. If Freeze can be hired as a HC, I don't see Pruitt being toxic as a coordinator. I'm sure his contract terms could protect Bama with any potential what ifs in the future.

He's facing 18 level 1 violations. I don't see how we can hire him with that hanging over him.

I have seen a few former players on twitter advocating for Pruitt to be hired.
