Now there is something for the recruits to see what the team will look like. This was a big unknown.

Yes, and many also forget the Gus teams generally looked pretty stale and terrible doing it.

Most on here very much remember that and talk about it constantly.

If you're trying to shine a "brighter" light on Gus's program, his boring teams and their performances against lower-level squads isn't one of them.

I’m not shilling for Gus. I’m saying let’s not get excited when we’ve looked as good as that against similar competition with the coach we just fired.

I’m excited. I like what I saw from the team tonight.

I get the reasons for optimism. I get the reason it feels different. But it’s one game against shitty competition.

I like Gus -- and yes, from time to time he did give a team a similar shellacking on the scoreboard. But the balance shown by this team tonight was impressive. We didn't run one running back or one receiver or one type of play to death. There were 8 rushers and 9 receivers recording yardage. One TE alone (Shenker) caught 5 passes. Only 3 penalties for 25 yards. 600 yards of offense, and half of it was passing. Better overall QB play than we've seen in a long time, against ANY opponent.

It was refreshing.

And that is an excellent synopsis. Not just the score, but the fashion in which we did it. Letting EVERYONE get involved, running several different schemes. This was not about the score, but what the players could do, and what plays, defensive schemes are working, or need some work.

No doubt the coaches got enough looks to prepare this team for much tougher opponents.

Go back and watch that Shivers swing pass for a TD, Three receivers downfield at three levels, throwing blocks, we have not seen that in a decade. That is coaching. Jason Campbell, during the broadcast said that Bo is definitely running his progressions. Coach Harsin commented in his presser that the Kobe TD was all on Bo, he recognized a defense and jumped his progression right to Kobe because he knew he would have a window to throw.

There was graphic just before the half with 10 receptions spread among 7 players.

That's a new day indeed.

let’s settle down a little bit

Oh FFS. We’re talking about the game… The one last night… The new Harsin era getting off to the right start…

I saw a team that was prepared, disciplined, confident. No sloppy plays, no gimmicky formations or “eye candy” (frickin hate that term). I saw players improve fundamentally from year to year. I saw some foundational cracks being mended from last year. Of course it was Akron, you dolt, but if you can’t see the foundational improvements player-to-player scheme-to-scheme from last year then I don’t know what you’re watching or what you’d get excited about.

But why not? Why do you keep saying this? What's wrong with Auburn fans being excited about a team that looked like it was organized, well-coached, utilized known football concepts, tight ends, and a WR route tree that was healthier than Charlie Brown's Christmas tree?

Why in the world would you want to down-play that?

WR’s need to get a lot of credit for their blocking. They did a great job downfield.

So, if I'm reading that correctly, *he* is allowed to be excited, but *we* are not?

Everyone should be excited. Now the quest is to be better this week and grow ..... then kick arse at Penn State . As long as we grow from each week, If the trend continues ...we can be 4-0 and ready to face Georgia.

I'd like to see LSU with another loss ...then the true test. Nothing but a Georgia defense .....without an offense.

I'd have been excited if we looked that good against air. We were well prepared, disciplined, and we executed. Auburn has scrapped by many opponent of Arkron's caliber with a W that felt like an L. Not on Saturday. Well done.

What did everyone think about all the different looks we showed on offense? Typically we'd have a pretty vanilla plan against Akron in the first game of the season.

From my humble perspective, we showed so many different variations and success in said variations that our opponents might actually be worried with too much to prepare for...as opposed to only having to prepare for the six plays in Malzahn's offense...

The long and short of it is we saw exactly what we all wanted when we got rid of Malzahn. Our team looked ready to play, people knew what they were doing and why they were doing it, and we showed ways of attacking all levels of the field. I mean we beat a really bad Mercer team 24-10 in 2018.

Now, the jury is obviously still out on this team until we play someone actually good, but that is 100% what I expected to see out of a Harsin coached team.

One thing I loved seeing was us rotating young guys in with older guys. I hated how we used to just sub in the entire 2nd team in the 4th. Starting in the third we started getting younger guys in, especially in the skilled positions, and letting them get reps with mostly starters. That is how you grow your depth.

Most of all, we looked very prepared. No penalties and our QB threw to the open WR most every time. Not to mention, the guy running wide open wasn’t over thrown by 10yds

I think it’s safe to act like things have changed, because they have.

We need to play decent competition before we can definitively act like they have changed for the better

I think everyone agrees we need to play decent competition before we see how good this team is, but that offense is completely different and it has changed. The days of being able to negatively recruit our offense is over fir now.

It will eventually come, but...

I think recruits will definitely see that this offensive scheme uses all of its weapons in its playcalling...TEs, RBs, WRs. That didn't happen in the previous offensive scheme. If you were a RB, you were going to get a lot of carries and very little receiving plays. WRs, well if you were the best one, then you would get a lot of balls. Some of the other WRs would be lucky to get 1-2 passes thrown to them. TEs...forget it. Only one on the field and be ready to just block.

And I think Harsin hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of the playbook on his passing plays.
