People around here have a bad memory. I can remember having to pull games out of our arse against shitty teams under Tub and Gus.....in much more dramatic fashion than this. We put ourselves in that situation from time to time. We are Auburn.

The fire Harsin guys were waiting for this moment to go off on Harsin. It was ugly but you still have to win them.

Look how many teams in the top 20 lost today and all the other favored teams struggled today.

Definitely things of concern today, but a lot of overreaction tonight on this board. Oh well.

Yeah because Nebraska sucks means we should accept sucking. Great logic

TAMU was 6th in the country and scored one offensive TD. (Kickoff return For TD). Recruiting has been great and they have a coach who won a NC. obviously they were not ready to play.

ETA: added stats. The No. 6 Aggies were upset at home by Appalachian State, 17-14, with the Aggies offense managing just 186 yards, nine first downs and one touchdown (the other came via kickoff return).

Auburn sucks at this point. Good RBs, below average WR, OL and QBs. Defense is average, but will keep us in most games.

That defense isn’t keeping anyone in games vs an even ok offense

A second week ranking based on preseason polls means nothing. We won’t know who the top 10 or 20 are until a few weeks in and teams separate themselves. Aggie will likely blow and go 8-4.

Look at this reasonably… today there was voodoo in the air all across the country. Luckily we escaped with a W when programs like Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Notre Dame lost to teams with pretty much the same level of talent as SJSU.

A W is a W.

That’s how I see it anyway and I’m certainly no sunshine pumper.

This is very true and it is easy to forget these games. But fortunately for us, we have managed to pull the majority of them out.

It is such a hard thing to rationalize in your head. Especially for me. We talk about recruiting and how bad things are right now but we do still have a lot of talent. Probably a top 20 team on the books. But then San Jose State or Georgia State marches in and damn near pulls out a win. With guys that could barely make our scout team. It makes you rethink everything.

Utah is a very good program. Like it or not. They damn near beat Florida last week ( I know its not typical UF) in the swamp. What kind of talent level is Utah ?

Right now it seems like college football is a Quarterback league. If you dont have a stellar QB, you are not going to compete. Even if the rest of your roster is solid

And we dont have one. Neither does Texas AM.

This game was bad for a half, the game below we were very lucky to win.

Sept. 25, 2021: Auburn 34, Georgia State 24 (We scored 15 points in the last 45 seconds), Beat LSU the next week.

Sept. 12, 2015: Auburn 27, Jacksonville State 20 (OT)
Oct. 20, 2001: Auburn 48, Louisiana Tech 41 (overtime)
Sept. 4, 1999: Auburn 22, Appalachian State (FCS) 15
Nov. 9, 1996: Auburn 28, Northeast Louisiana 24
Oct. 24, 1992: Auburn 25, Southwest Louisiana 24
Oct. 6, 1990: Auburn 16, Louisiana Tech 14

Man your memory is so much better than mine. I dont remember many of those early 90's games.
Something done burnt up my brain cells

You did however forget one that I do remember. Utah State at home, the game after we won our National Championship. I have never seen the stands empty so fast late in the 4th quarter.

Score, get the onside kick, score again in less than a minute. We were soooooooo lucky

Auburn 42-38 2011

While I agree we are now a complete shitshow, money talks. The people responsible for the donkey show surrounding Harsin better be ready to pony up a bunch of it to get rid of Harsin and grt someone better

I am afraid that there is more to it than money. You have to remember that the majority of the "good" coaches either have money or know they will get it no matter where they go. I personally think the money angle is not a big part of it

What is happening is what I and some others were afraid would happen. You hire a new coach, you get some Auburn frickery (If you are older than 20, you know it was coming) then you get in a cycle of trying to find a hidden gem. Which there are very few of

So many here over value what Auburn is and how attractive the coaching job is. It is not as attractive as many of us want it to be. The coaching gig is a small group as are their reps. And that is why we get coaches like we do.

In my life, we have never landed a "Big name coach". I look at things in reality, not what I want them to be

I think the next 7 games will be telling and decide Harsin’s fate. The players seem to be playing hard, but bottom line is coach Hardin has a tough 7 weeks ahead and will need to win more than our previous coach to keep his job imo.

Penn St
Mizzou
LSU
UGA
Ole Miss
Arky
Msu
Tamu

He’s going to have to win some games over the next 7 weeks or I could see him being fired before we play western Kentucky and Alabama.

The only hire I remember not being followed by a collective WTF is Tubbs.

If Rhett Lashlee comes through those doors next....

Perhaps we are at the stage of the Auburn life cycle where we take Ole Miss's coach again?

Didn’t Gus have to run Kerryon like 57 times against Mercer to beat them back in 2017?

We definitely struggled in the first half last night. The second was better.

He needs to figure out his QB situation pretty soon, though. Last night, TJ threw the ball pretty well in the second half. Ashford ran it pretty well. That’s not going to work going forward. There’s enough tape now to know that when 9 comes in, key on him running. Having two QBs means you don’t have one.

If people don't understand that the AU HC gig is entirely different than most every P5 school, look at why Venables said he didn't take the job:

"I had made reference that I was a little bit nervous," Venables said. "I really didn't think we had the alignment [at Auburn] that we have here. So I was a little bit nervous.

Anyone that's been paying attention to our program for the last 30 years knows exactly what he's talking about. Not only do you have to recruit and coach against the very best in college football: you have to do it being hamstrung by the most meddlesome group of boosters in the country.
