So are we just gonna be a program that gets 10 high school guys and 12-15 transfers every year? Is that the plan

I disagree. A championship can be won with 4* talent.
It can, but it’s definitely a lot harder. For the sake of argument, name the last 4* talent team to win it all.

AU if they had signed the same players as Alabama.

This 4 star team won it all in 2016.It helps to have a DeShaun Watson at QB. But even he was only a 4 star. 247 says their 2014 class was ranked 16 nationaly. Not a single 5 star signed. clemson 2014 recruiting class

They signed 5* players in 2013 and 2015.

My point was your core target can be 4* and you can win.

Anyone expecting us to sign 5* players this year is getting ahead of themselves. I'll be happy if we sign more 4*s than 3*s. The staff is almost entirely new and have been put in a position where they have to overcome historical success from pretty much every rival we have. What are you selling a 5* right now to convince them to come to AU over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, TAMU, and Clemson?

Chizik and Malzahn got there fair share the first year. Doesn't look like harsin will even finish top 25

We’re in a completely different situation. It’s not remotely fair to compare

Why should we not expect a 5* we have sign them with other 1st year coaches.

In 2009 and 2013 we weren't 15 years into our main rival's greatest dynasty. Georgia was good but not great. Same for LSU. Texas A&M wasn't relevant. Clemson was just ramping up. The college football landscape for us is entirely different than it was back then. You can't compare Harsin's recruiting and coaching efforts with that of Chizik and Malzahn without considering the broader contexts of their respective situations.

For the record, I'm concerned too. But these are lazy takes.

They're extremely lazy. For example, Malzahn was only gone for one season and came back under the pretense that he was the mastermind of the 2010 season. He already had footing with all of the recruits in the region by way of being the Auburn OC from 2009-2011.

Back to recruiting news…

4* RB Damari Alston is down to LSU, Auburn, and Northwestern. And LSU has 3 in state guys they might like more/equally.

With Damari deciding July 25th, he appears to be Auburn’s to lose.

Now back to recruiting... :)

In the last 18 years(And I only looked at the 24/7 recruiting rankings).

Auburn has had only 3 years he got more than 1 5*
Auburn has had 6 years where it has only gotten 1 5*
Auburn has had 9 years it has had 0 5*s

So Auburn in at least 15 years of recruiting had to work hard to even get 1 5*.

Let's not get hung up on 5*s with Harsin so early into his tenure. Let's see how he develops his recruiting ability here over the next 3 years...

There are a lot more 4* in comparison to 5* players, so yes, everyone’s typical core target is 4*. Doesn’t mean they don’t recruit and land 5* players.

So I haven't been following as closely as some, but I haven't seen Damari Alston's name come up much until now. What do we think about him? Would be good to lock up a 4* RB.
