Competition is good for anyone at any position. Either it will make Jalen and the entire QB room better, or guys will fold to the pressure. I saw one of the Bama beat guys saying the only backup OL currently on the roster are True Freshman or will be redshirt freshman. Is that true?

well, at least we know the QB spot will be open for competition.

I am sure Ty and his parents, would not agree to come back unless that was the case.

Also, I am pretty sure that they told the coaches that Milroe and his family need to know this as well.

That way there is no confusion entering spring ball

Curious how the Milroe camp feels about Ty returning.

It could be nothing at all and Simpson is cool with being the backup one more year and then being the leader in the club house for 2025.

Some of you guys are kidding yourselves if you think CNS is going to bench Milroe. He has repeatedly and doggedly kept upper class starters in even if a younger player is clearly better. Unless Milroe robs a bank in broad daylight with no mask on and is videotaped, he’s not going to bench him. It’s the worst kept secret on the planet.

That doesn’t mean I think it’s right, it’s just the way it is. Personally, I’d like to see a serious and legit competition this Spring. It’s just not happening.

I am assuming you are referring to Milroe's family. I am guessing they assume he is the starter next year.

However, it is widely known that Saban is one of the few coaches that does not "guarantee" snaps or positions on the team. If they were not OK with competition he never would have came in the first place.

Us average fans I am sure glad that he is staying to keep the competition up.

Just going to throw this out there from a guy that is a pretty big donor each year to see if anyone else has heard the same.

The QB battle last year came down to Milroe winning the team with his leadership and intangibles. Him taking the WRs to Florida and spending time with them put them firmly behind him. Simpson spent pretty much no time working with his teammates, but rather working on himself. Simpson was also somewhat immature, and when he would make a mistake in practice, he would over compensate and couldn't just move on. Buchner really did neither, but came in with an attitude that he would win the starting spot, even though he was only told he would have a chance to compete, so he never got any support from his teammates. He didn't make the mistakes in practice Simpson did, and that put him ahead. Milroe had half the team ready to run through a wall for him, so that gave him the start spot. Buchner not caring to develop any chemistry with his teammates was a large reason for the lack of effort from anyone when we played USF. It was also why the effort increased with Simpson in the game, because quite a few players did not care for Buchner at all.

He said Simpson realized what happened and how it happened and took a smart route. The entire year he has spent time developing relationships with the second string, primarily Hale, Miller, Hayes, Alilen, McVay, Formby, Young etc, and has spent a lot more time hanging out with a lot more players this year.

He thinks there will be a QB battle in the spring, because Milroe is losing a lot of the guys who were really behind him to graduation and the draft and with one of Saban's big focuses being winning the team, Ty has made that a lot closer already. Not saying he will overtake Jalen, just that Ty has been much smarter with his approach and stopped making it so much about improving just himself, and that Ty has closed the gap significantly with the team.

Has anyone else heard similar?

On a separate note, he didn't mention anything about the players moms.

No, but it is definitely believable, and kind of echoes what we have heard and seen over the last year.

Not that kind of detail, but similar stories

and when he would make a mistake in practice, he would over compensate and couldn't just move on

In scrimmages you could tell he would press after making a mistake. He would force balls, and was a turnover waiting to happen. Once it started going down hill in the few I saw, he basically could never get the offense going again. Lonergan along with Buchner going into the season seemed to have the most command of the offense when it came to executing with consistency. Milroe was definitely ahead of everyone coming out of fall camp IMO.

Buchner looked serviceable, but nothing wowed you, you could tell he did not have the talent of the other guys

He thinks there will be a QB battle in the spring

No question it is possible, that we might have more guys look to transfer after we see how everyone has improved. I think Milroe had a decided edge coming out of fall practice, but guessing that has narrowed for sure now.

I would guess that a guy that won an SEC championship MVP and was 6th in the Heisman and has shown a good work ethic isn't terribly worried about Simpson.

As a fan I am happy because if Simpson ends up starting it means he's got to be really, really good.

My guess is that Sayin would end up winning the job in 2025, but that assumes Milroe wins the job in 2024 and it's up for grabs in 2025.

How in the world can you say Ty will get better with another off-season but it's not guaranteed Milroe will?

He was exponentially better this year than he was when Bryce was the starter.

Think Simpson will stay and start unless Sayin turns out to be some sort of a phenom.

I don't think everyone should write off Dylan Lonergan. Between Milroe, Simpson, Lonergan, and Sayin... we should have a healthy QB competition this spring.

He did it in 2018. I think the competition will be a competition just like any other position. If Milroe doesn't improve - dramatically in some areas - he runs the risk of the depth catching up to and passing him. Milroe may be the best athlete on the offense but it is debatable whether he will end up being the best quarterback.

Remember Lonergan has a Baseball option too. He may go that route.

If you’re talking about 2017, we opened with #3 Florida State. Nobody would have started true freshman Tua in that game.

Next year we open with USF, WKU, and Wisconsin. Expect the best guy to start

First two games, in particular, are the kind where you can probably expect to see the backup get snaps with the 1s in that area where the game is well in hand but not unseemly to run the full offense. @Wisconsin is when Alabama needs the offense figured out.
