re: Ever seen a "leisure time" charge at a restaurant?
Posted by BrianFantana on 5/22/24 at 8:20 am
It seems like the waiter didn't explain why the charge was on there, and the policy wasn't discussed by the waiter. Why wouldn't the waiter do either of those things?

10-12 years minimum it takes to become a foreman, usually 15 to become a super and 20 or so to become a PM
In my experience you're way off on your numbers because it all depends on the person. We had a guy we were moving to super within 3 years because he was a hard worker and knew his stuff. You seem to be coming from the industrial side of things and that's just not been my experience with general contractors and sub contractors. I can go to any of our jobs sites and youll see assistant supers, supers, APM's and PM's that are below 35 and most of the time below 30. That's for GC's and other commercial trades.

cool...and how many jobs do you think are like that out there? how many dont require you to move all over the place?
I can name 5 subcontractors in the Atlanta area that are looking for commercial construction positions right now. Including us. Everyone in commercial construction needs people right now. I saw a listing yesterday for a senior estimator with a plumbing subcontractor that starts at $115,000.

What about PTO and vacations? 2 Weeks as soon as you start and that increases with longer you're with the company.
Quality of life? Such an objective question that only each person can determine for themselves.
Ability to work from home or remotely? You obviously can't do that if you're required to be in the field. But you get a gas card, plus company truck or a truck allowance.
Retirement packages and 401K matches? Fidelity up to 5% match.
Health insurance options that includes things like free or discounted gym memberships? Yep.
HSA's? Yep.
Working in the A/C? Nope but our foreman aren't working foreman so they just literally supervise.
What about long term vertical growth? Yep. Will pay for you to be trained to get your license and our first look for PM's or estimating starts with field personnel.
Abilty to work with the same company but move to a different state or country? You can't with our company but you can with a lot of national/regional subcontractors.
"tons of money right out of the gate" is a HORRIBLE reason to make a career choice.
Commercial Construction Subcontractor here. Just sharing that commercial is better than Residential if you're not an owner in residential.

None of our guys consistently work over 40 hours a week. Sometimes shite happens and you have to pull some OT if we are behind or are doing a favor for the GC. But that's very rare.

People want to bash college degrees over trades but never speak of the working conditions/environment and often lack of retirement, Healthcare and PTO of said trades.
The hell with working in an attic all day in August in south Louisiana, cleaning out a septic tants, unclogging tampos every month in the projects.
Everyone in this thread bitching about the trades continually uses residential construction analogies to make their point. I will not push my kids into trades within service or residential construction but the money within commercial construction is there and will continue to grow. Most commercial subcontractors will pay and train you to get licensed.. our supers arent working foreman and make good money 70-125k depending on experience and time they've been with us. We've brought in two supers to be PM's in the past couple of years from the field but most of our guys want to stay in the field because the headache of management outweighs them supervising in the elements because they really dont do a whole lot besides layout.

This is a bigger issue than most will admit. Basically have two generations of adults that don't know the difference between "needs" and "wants".
This will always be my take on it. I dont think the majority of millennials understand needs vs wants. I think you can still live relatively cheap if you're willing to sacrifice a bit and be uncomfortable at times. What percentages of millennials are making a sandwich or something cheap a few nights a week instead of something more expensive vs going out or god forbid uber eats. What percentage of millenials have a side hustle or two? My parents are comfortable now but damn did they struggle and work their arse off with multiple jobs. I think it should be a requirement for people constantly bitching about "boomers" to show their monthly budget. Because at the end of the day it will always be that it isnt about what you make, it's about what you spend.

Watching the A day game to find signs of improvement from Milroe. He looks like the same guy to me.
Simpson looks improved.
I think most fans fail to realize spring games are not where these coaches will make the decision on who's the guy. Both the offense and defense at a spring game are vanilla as can be. The "best on best" or other competition periods in practice are where the coaches will make up their mind. In a closed practice the offense and defense will throw everything they have at each other to find out who the 11 guys are that they can count on, so a spring game is more for the 3rd and 4th string guys to get more live reps in my opinion.

we just need someone like Coker who can consistently move the chains and be average at throwing the ball
You think Coker beats UGA last year? Because instead of having Kiffin as the OC you have Rees... and instead of turning around and handing it to D Henry you have Roydell and Jase. Like you guys are freaking delusional with this hate.

I really like Milroe but he can’t throw short to intermediate over the middle
Ty had a 5 yard overthrow on a short to intermediate pass over the middle at A Day. Milroe had a 10 yard comeback that hit the receiver in the chest and was dropped. Seems like short to intermediate, right?

When you start to get back out there and start wondering how some of those beautiful women you see are single... just know that somebody, somewhere, got tired of her shite and that's why she's single.

Easy way to not have Daddy Ball issues is simply to not coach your kid. I’d recommend that. I had times when I’d be coaching in the same league my sons played in but I wouldn’t be coaching them. They’d be on other teams. And I told them don’t come to me if you have a problem with your coach. I’m not gonna solve your problems. Neither is your mother. This is preparing you for life for when you might have a boss that you might not see eye to eye on. You be mature and work it out.
This is beyond strange to me... So would you miss your sons games to coach other peoples kids in the same league?

I do agree with banning books describing how to have gay sex or any sex at all from schools. I feel like that's simple to agree with unless you're a pedo.

Library card fees is an odd one -- society as a whole benefits from libraries but "conservatives" hate education so this makes sense in that context I suppose.
You sound like the type of person that supports "This Book Is Gay" being in school libraries.

He's the best I've ever coached against besides Travis Hunter. When Gilbert wanted to go there wasnt a HS kid in the country that could have guarded him back then. I hate to see what his life has turned into after being given so many chances.

Wife is home with one toddler while other two are in elementary school. Waiting on her to go back to work. I am ok supporting us right now but she isn’t the best cook and the house is still a disaster to come home to most days.
This would drive me absolutely crazy if my wife was a "homemaker" as multiple people have stated in this thread. If you are a stay at home mother or father... I would expect the house to be spotless, all cooking and laundry to be done by them during the week. If your "job" is homemaker then you should be completely responsible for all those aspects of the home in my opinion.
