If I'm being completely honest, from that list I believe Merlins is by far the best candidate.

Agreed. Mullen is basically a through-and-through dork, but has produced very good offenses in his career. I thought for a time it could've been mostly Urban Meyer behind the strings, but he did it at Miss State too. I don't think this is the hire, but we could do worse for sure

Brian Johnson would be my choice from that list.

Hope y’all hire a good one.

Give me Brian Johnson. Guy will be a star in a few years.

No objections to Johnson, but I think there's a better chance he's an NFL OC next year than Bama's.

Rams and Jets have interviewed him for OC spots, he'll be in line for a promotion if the Eagles lose Steichen and/or Patullo, and will also be a hot name when these NFL HC jobs are filled and they're looking for OCs.

Depending in how long the Eagles are in the playoffs, I don't think Saban waits an upwards of almost 3 more weeks for his OC hire.

I think Lebby will kill it at Bama.

I know people shite on Mullen, but I think he’s absolutely the best OC/play caller on that list. The only thing is would his personality fit. But Lane worked out well. I can’t imagine his ego is bigger than Lane’s.

You might be right about that.

If he's who Saban wants and he wants to come, I don't think a couple of weeks is a roadblock.

Matt Patricia doesn’t have any connections to Saban or UA, but fits the mold of BOB and Daboll… to be honest, not loving any of the NFL options I can think of.

Patricia is the most puzzling oc hire in the NFL that I’ve ever seen. He is a defensive guy and Bill just seems to have wanted him back on staff so bad that he made him his OC. Seems like a case of BB believing his own hype and thinking he could make anyone a star coach.

He was OL coach in 2021 before being promoted to “play calling”. And had been an offensive assistant for New England from 2004-05, when he was then moved to the defensive side.

No NFL guys. NFL offenses are unimaginative and all fit the same mold of BoB. NFL coordinators are also unaccustomed to developing players. Saban's two worst OCs have both been NFL guys in Daboll and BoB.

But one of his best hires was a former NFL OC in Sark.

I’m not advocating for NFL only. I’d like to see someone with experience at both levels. With a history of flexibility.

I don't know how you put Daboll in with BoB.

Daboll wasn’t a bad OC. He was held back by QB play that season.

Daboll was great man. His offense propelled us to a ‘ship.

It could be more than a couple of weeks before we know if Johnson will be offered a NFL OC job. If the Eagles make it to the Super Bowl, then you'll have to at least wait that long. I think Johnson has already interviewed with the Rams and Jets. And if Jonathan Gannon (Eagles DC) gets the Texans HC job he could bring Johnson on as his OC, but they'll most likely interview other candidates as well so that could take even longer. Theoretically it could be over a month before we know if Johnson lands an OC job in the NFL.
