You think O'Brien, who by track record is a successful and respected play caller, schemed for 2 pass catchers to be in the same spot?

No, I am positive he didn’t . But if they ARE in the same spot , that is a coaching problem

It happened too often to be anything other than scheme.

Because Kirby ran a completely different defense in that game than he had all year. He returned to his normal defense in the NC game and we definitely didn’t handle it well after Williams went out. Once the over the top was eliminated, our offense was pedestrian.

Definitely a coaching problem . Even if the WRs were running option routes , they shouldn’t have been stacked up like they were many times

I don't think it was Kirby's defense. Alabama was well on their way to scorching that defense again before Jamison went down. They simply could not cover him.
I believe that was more of a personnel issue. Look at the number of drops by the backup receivers. There were more than a couple of dropped passes which would have been huge plays. Brooks dropped a pass inside the 5 yard line with just over a minute in the game which could have led to tying the game for OT.

Team was just absolutely dog shite on 4th and short.

The thing that pisses me off the most is the statement above....I mean why not run the play from under center

Serious question, during BY's career, how many plays total did he run from under center (kneel-downs and spiking the ball to stop the clock don't count)?

BooB loves option routes, so yes and no. The scheme is why they ended up in the same place, but not by design. One guy just read the defense wrong and ran the wrong route. It's a really awful system to run with a bunch of new WRs and a QB who isn't able to practice for 2/3 of the season.

The second time under Belichick hasn't happened yet; the time under Saban--well, we all know how that went. The first time under Belichick was a year and a half and multiple players have said their success wasn't related to BoB.

Just because someone makes a mistake hiring someone, it doesn't mean they're good at what they do. Belichick hired a lifelong defensive coach to be OC this past season. Even Saban and Belichick have made bad hiring decisions.

If Gibbs doesn't drop the pass vs UT, then Bama wins that game and we're in the playoffs.

We can still blame BOB.

BoB was in New England the first time for 5 years 2007-2011, and called plays for 3 years, but only had the OC title for 1 year in 2011 cause Bill was acting funny as is his want.

For nothing other than keeping Will on the right hash he should have been fired.

A good shot at a championship hindered by injuries and this year both games were lost by the defense.

Look, I don't think the guy is this dumbass like others do. The end.

Young made many calls at the line. Folks here said he was checking out of stupid shite, but I never saw a correlation with his checks and success.

Then you don't know what you were watching.

Also, he didn't just make checks he had to set up protections so some of the times he was changing protection.

Anyways, I'm still amazed how Bill O'Brien is still defend on this forum. Shocking.

Kirby is stubborn like Saban.

He will let you win if your QB/WR combo can hit the elite high difficulty passes.

Jamo/Devonta/Waddle/Ruggs etc were all capable of doing that, none of the guys we had to plug in after Williams and Metchie went down in 2021 were.

To your point though, if either of Brooks or Hall make a play we probably tie and head to OT with a chance to win despite everything.
