I'll say this.
Not one of our shooters, outside of Shack, shoots confidently. They refuse to step in to a shot like they mean it. And its killing our shot. At this point, its in their heads.
and until they start shooting expecting to make, we will stay in this slump. You cannot shoot well if you don't believe that your shot is going in as it leaves your hands.

Nothing unfortunately. Our 3 best shooters are a guy who doesn't want to be anything more than a 3rd scoring option, a guy who is in the doghouse every couple of weeks, and a guy who can go 6/8 or 1/12 on any given night. Like I said before though, if Quinerly and Gurley weren't putrid from outside this season none of the above would be an issue. As it stands though, as far as 3pt shooting goes our rotation includes 3 guys who are effective but unreliable, 5 who are are reliably bad, and 1 who doesn't shoot at all.
I think what hurt us the most this year, when talking about lack of shooting, happened before the season even began. Primo's stock shot up during the pre-draft process and him declaring and getting that evaluation shocked some people, I would imagine Oats had him penciled for another year. Then Burnett goes down who was shooting really well in practice. Now we're stuck with JQ's shooting who has regressed more to a mean, Shack who will be fire or ice, and then we have Ellis who I think we all wish would've been a bit more aggressive this year in a new role.
Hopefully next season the shooting and defense improve back to near our levels last year.

Stat that basict defines our team and our outcomes
vs Conference & Top 75 OOC
- Quinerly Positive Box Plus Minus: 8-1 (loss @ Mizzou)
- Quinerly Negative Box Plus Minus: 1-7 (win Miami)
If JQ plays average to well - we will. If JQ plays below average to bad - we lose. It's not necessarily fair to him, but it quite literally all comes down to him.
The national average for eFG% is 50%.
- Quinerly >/= national eFG%: 7-1
- Quinerly < national eFG%: 7-8
- Quinerly > 100.0 Offensive Rating (avg): 10-1
- Quinerly < 100.0 Offensive Rating (avg): 4-8
- Quinerly > 95.0 rating (below avg): 12-2
- Quinerly < 95.0 rating (below avg): 2-7
If JQ plays well, we win
If JQ plays average, we probably win
If JQ plays below average or poorly, we lose

maybe q just cant handle the constant pressure. who knows at this point! i still think oats needs to sit them all down and let'em watch for a while. stop rewarding bad play. but then again, i hate seeing guys congratulate a guy for missing a free throw. dont slap his hand, look him in the eye tell him to focus and make the ft, then you'll congratulate him. stop rewarding guys for bad performances.

And play who exactly?

Benching kids for missing shots is terrible coaching. You bench players for being selfish or lazy.

It is going to be interesting to see which players (good or bad) stick around for next season. Nate has his work cut out for him. Hope he is able to get good results from the portal.

With all the new guys coming in next year,we definitely will be needing some experience guys from the portal.

Gonna be interesting to see who stays and goes but also where they go. I mean before the season started, JD, Q, Shack, and Ellis probably all thought they would get drafted. None of them will get drafted. Do they come back, go to the G league, try the portal? Then you have the guys that probably haven’t gotten the playing time they wanted: KAH, Holt, Tchikou, maybe even Miles. Do they come back? Gonna be an interesting offseason for sure

The key to success for any team has always been point guard play. Of all the teams I've coached, it's always been that way. The better the point guard, the better the team I've had. And you better have a solid back up that you can trust with the ball. Bama doesn't have that right now.

It also helps when both of your point guards aren’t turnstiles on defense

There have been times this year where the effort wasn't there and Oats should have been harder on it. But the past couple of games anyway, I feel the effort has been there just poor ball handling and shooting. I just hope after the Auburn and UK games, we don't see guys give up on the season.

Absolutely, it's the most high leverage position on the floor. But ours even moreso than others. Tennessee can win if Chandler has an off night. Auburn can win if Green has an off night. Kentucky can win if TyTy or Wheeler have an off night.
We basically have to have JQ have a decent night or we can't find other ways to win.

It definitely will. I think you'll see a big push from the coaches to get Keon to come back. Hopefully, get him back and a healthy Burnett to go with Rylan. Maybe JD will come back AND improve to go with Bradley. Would like to pull in an experienced PG via portal. Not sure what happens with Holt and Miles. I think they are both versatile and skilled but need to see consistency. Feel like Bediako will continue to get stronger and improve. Like what he showed against UK. Should have Gary back to mix with Clowney, Pringle and Miller. Good thing is that some of the incoming freshman can play a variety of spots giving us more flexibility. Pretty sure you'll see KAH and Alex leave.
Pretty sure Oats will go after a PG, someone to replace Gurley and shooting help. Hopefully, someone that comes in will have strong leadership abilities. We need leaders on the court.

Completely agree. If there was going to be a mass benching it should have happened sometime between @Mizzou and @UGA. The effort has been there the last 3 games though.

JQ is the ONLY player we've got who can, with ANY consistency, get to the rim off his drive, AND score or dish! If the opponent can't effectively handle that, the 3s open up, as well as points at the rim and put backs.

I’d like to see us go at least 6-2 over the last eight games. If we aren’t careful, we could go something like 3-5 though. Need to close out strong and hopefully start burying some shots at a respectable clip.

Alabama basketball placing emphasis on shooting after Kentucky game
Alabama basketball is coming off its worst shooting performance of the Nate Oats era.
The Crimson Tide shot 3-for-30 (10 percent) from beyond the 3-point line in a 66-55 loss to No. fifth-ranked Kentucky on Saturday, which was the program’s lowest shooting percentage since going 1-for-15 (7 percent) at Mississippi State in 2019. That was also tied for the second-worst performance from deep in Division I this season on at least that many 3-point attempts.
It’s why shooting was a major emphasis in practice this week, according to Oats.
“We couldn’t buy a bucket,” Oats said Monday. “We shot 3-of-30 from three, which that’s not typical. We’ve struggled a little bit this year shooting the ball. We’ve gotta start shooting it better, obviously. But I thought our guys played pretty good D. This was maybe our best defensive performance of the year. I still think our guys are giving great effort. It’d be nice if we could drop some shots. That kind of helps in basketball if you make a few shots (laughs).
“I think the stretch of three (top-five) games, it’s gonna make you better, and our defense definitely got better as the three games went on. Now, we’ve gotta finish up conference play. We’ve got four weeks left until SEC (Tournament) play starts, so we’ve gotta continue to improve our defense and then shooting, we’ve made a big point of emphasis on shooting. We kind of made practice separate and got guys in the gym with assistants outside of practice to get a bunch of shots up.
“And today looked good. We’ll get some shots up at Ole Miss tomorrow night after we get there. Hopefully, we shoot the ball a little bit better here moving forward.”
Alabama ranks eighth nationally in three-point attempts (683) but has only made 208, which is good for 30.45 percent. That shooting percentage ranks 318th nationally out of 350 teams.
The offense was lacking on a night the Crimson Tide’s defense was actually solid in holding the Wildcats under 70 points. But the misses from three – and everywhere else on the floor – along with 15 turnovers, which led to 17 points for UK, kept Alabama from adding another win over a top-five team to its resume and dropped the Tide’s overall record to 14-9 (4-6 SEC).
“For whatever reason, our offense wasn’t great, and then we turned it over 15 times,” Oats said. “That doesn’t help either. If we could have got the turnovers down around 10 and even just shot 30 percent from three or even 25 percent, we would have won that game.
“I’m not too discouraged because I think the shooting, it’s not as if we’ve got a bad shooting team. We’ve just gotta get our shooters to make some shots, and we’ve gotta pump confidence into them. I thought we looked good in practice today. They shot the ball well in their individual workout this afternoon. We’re gonna keep shooting open shots, that’s for sure.”
UA has eight games left before traveling to Tampa, Fla., for the SEC Tournament and turns its attention to an Ole Miss team that is 13th in the current conference standings at 12-11 (3-7). It will look to avoid another sluggish performance against a team with a worse record while attempting to make the shooting output against Kentucky a one-time shortcoming.
It will do so in Oxford on Wednesday, Feb. 9 (7:30 p.m. on SEC Network) against a team that gives up 65.7 points per game, which ranks sixth in the SEC, and allows opponents to shoot 43.2 percent from the floor and 29.7 percent from deep, which is third-best in the league.
“At Ole Miss, and I’ve told our guys, ‘I don’t really care if you’re 0-for-3, 1-for-10, whatever it is. We’ve just gotta play hard,’” Oats said. “‘If we just play hard, just give everything you’ve got on the defensive end, I just think everything is gonna fall in place and work out for itself.’
“... I don’t think we can let Ole Miss’ switching defenses slow us down and get us less aggressive. We’ve gotta attack the zone. We’ve gotta get the ball moving. Our defensive energy has gotta be there from the tip, and it’s gotta stay there for the full 40 minutes. We’ve been doing a good job rebounding the ball. We’ve gotta continue to do that, especially if we’re not shooting it well. We’ve gotta go get some offensive rebounds and get some second-chance points and put it in.
“But really just are the guys locked into playing hard, playing the right way, no matter whether shots go in or not. Let’s just keep taking great shots and keep taking great shots, and they’re gonna start falling for us here pretty quick.”

Tommorow night is the season IMO. We win I think we go on a little run and finish 20-11ish. We lose and I think 17-14 is very possible
