Over the last 6 weeks we are #346 out of 357 D1 teams in 3PT % at 27.0%.

That puts us in the bottom 3% nationally. The only hi-major team worse is Arizona State at 26.8%. They're 7-13.

Since 2008 there have been 40 games where a team had a eFG% of 30.5% or worse (what we had Saturday).

Those teams went 1-39.

There was only 1 story Saturday that mattered - our shooting.

Me after every game since December: "No worries, the law of averages says there's no possible way this group of guys will shoot sub-30% from 3 for long."

Alabama the next game:

It's almost like they spend their time sitting around smoking with a particular poster instead of being at the gym.

If so, then maybe they should spend even more time smoking instead of in the gym. Then we can get SOG to update the stats.

Someone else did then, because there definitely weren’t 2,500 empty seats.

If Quinerly was shooting just ~35% from 3 and Gurley was shooting ~33% I really don't think we'd even be having these kind of discussions. Those two are the real issue. Ellis just isn't willing to dominate the ball, Miles has spent half his career in the doghouse, and Shack goes back and forth between shooting 5/8 from outside and 1/9 from outside. So on those 1/9 nights from Shack we simply have no chance. Even moreso than JD being a big misevaluation, Gurley being a bust and Quinerly turning back into the pumpkin he was at Villanova are why we are where we are.

Good morning fellow Bama bball fans! Friendly reminder that the random student they pulled out of the stands for the Full Moon challenge shot a higher percentage from halfcourt than our team of D1 players did from the 3 point line on Saturday.

I said in a post after the game that I would have bet SERIOUS money that we could make at least 4 if we pulled up 30 times before crossing the half-court line.

3/30 from 3 is still just unfathomable to me, even though I actually witnessed it.

One thing that would help is dont let Rojas and Gary camp out at the three point line. They can pick and pop but they job has to be to free up the shooters, the green light goes red.

Force JD to take more shots and finish at the rim.

Agreed. Kentucky turned us over a couple of times because we had Gary/Rojas in the corner, ran the pick and roll on their side, and their man came down off of him to disrupt the play. It just doesn't make sense. There is no reason for anyone playing defense to honor those guys at the three point line.

Do our players practice free throws before the game. Maybe I missed it, but I dont remember seeing them do that. They do spend time trying crazy dunks.

I'm a sadist

Since 2011-2012 (10 seasons) there have been 224 Hi Major vs Hi Major games in which a team had an eFG% of 30.2% or worse.

Those teams went 5-219, a winning % of 2.2%.

Saturday was our 2nd worst eFG% since 2008. The only one worse was 2011 at Auburn (lost 51-49).

1. 2011 Auburn (28.6%) (L 51-49)
2. 2022 Kentucky (30.5%) (L 66-55)
3. 2013 Auburn (30.6%) (L 49-37)
4. 2018 Florida (32.5%) (L 73-52)
5. 2009 Kentucky (32.8%) (L 61-51)

Finally, that was the worst eFG% performance by a Nate Oats team in his 221 game head coaching career.

1. 2022 Bama/Kentucky (30.5%)
2. 2020 Bama/Clemson (33.0%)
3. 2015 Buffalo/ODU (33.1%)
4. 2017 Buffalo/Toledo (34.3%)
5. 2020 Alabama/Mizzou (34.8%)

However, if firing up brick after brick 3 pointer is the focus on the offensive end, he's got to be on the road recruiting athletic sharp shooters. Not just 4 or 5 star athletes who can't hit the broad side of a barn. Also, our big guys shooting more brick 3's than setting up or driving for more higher percentage inside shots is an issue.

It makes no sense that a coach that values 3 point shooting as much as he does doesn't focus his recruiting on guys that can hit 3's in high school or in the portal. I don't know, maybe he has and the guys that committed to us were actually good 3 point shooters but as usual with Alabama basketball they come here and can't shoot.

My 2 didn’t get used. I had something come up, gave them to a friend, and he got in a minor car accident as he was leaving Birmingham. Other driver was drunk and by the time police left the scene it was midway through first half.

I’m done trying to diagnose this team. Every loss seems like it’s a different issue. When we put it all together, we are one of the best teams in the nation, which makes those losses that much more frustrating and head scratching.
