Yeah, I feel like all the guys who contributed to the 2024 Final Four team are legends. Nobody else has done it here. Mark Sears was the best player on that team, so he certainly going down as one of the best Alabama basketball players ever.

That, and he averaged 21.5 ppg and shot 43.6% from 3 on 5.9 attempts per game. He probably had one of, if not the most efficient offensive seasons in Bama history.

Shameful that Mark Sears can have a dominant season statistically, lead his team to the final four, and is not be a slam dunk for a first round pick in a weak draft year.

I think his toughness, shooting, and perfect execution of a pro offense gives him a chance to hang around the NBA. But he’s gonna be a defensive liability that his offensively play will have to completely overcome

Mark Sears is a certified, labeled, branded statued all timer of Bama basketball. No ifs or buts accepted.

Obviously want Sears back, but do kind of feel bad for him. You know he wants to be drafted. And if he isn’t getting drafted this year, he’s not going to be drafted next year either. He’ll be a year older and next year’s draft will supposedly be stronger, and I don’t think he can have better year than he had this past season. Good for us, but I know it sucks for him.

Been to the final four in San Antonio and Indy in the 90's. San Antonio was great. Indianapolis was pretty dull outside the basketball.

Sears had one of the most efficient and productive seasons from an SEC guard in history.

Dalton Knecht also scored 20+ ppg this year, but he was under 50% from the field and under 40% from 3. He was also under 80% from the foul line.

Scotty Pippen averaged 20+ ppg in 2022 but he shot 41% from the field and 32% from 3.

Cam Thomas averaged over 20+ ppg in 2021 but shot 40% from the field and 32% from 3.

Mason Jones averaged over 20+ ppg in 2020 but shot 45% and 35%.

Sindarius Thornwell averaged 20+ ppg in 2017 but shot 44% and 39%.

3 guys scored more than 20ppg in 2016 but none shot better than 46%.

So in the last decade Sears is the only guy to average more than 20 points per game on 50/40 shooting. He did it as a 5'10" guard. He never took more than 20 shots this year. Knecht did that 8 times. Knecht also shot worse each month as SEC play started - 52% in Jan, 46% in Feb, and 39% in March.

Sears had the best season a Bama player has ever had, all things considered.

Sears is one of my all time favorite Bama players. I don't think he's the most talented player ever, but sometimes the whole equals more than the sum of its parts.

For HIS sake, I hope he gets drafted and has a long nba career. But, if he has to settle for coming back and leading a loaded Bama team next year, I can live with that.

With the foreign influx of players starting in the late 8s and early 90s its much harder for "good" USA players to get drafted in just two rounds. I always thought they should have bumped it up to three rounds, but the teams just want to sign free agents with minimal pay outs, that far down, which makes sense for them.

The best thing now is to stay in college, get your degree, and put back monies you can get in case you never make the NBA, hell, invest it.

I know this a BB related, but with this legal paying of players by Universities approved yesterday, does anyone ever see a point in time when it will not be a four year scholarship deal but Colleges will just compete for players with pro leagues? Who knows right? LOL its a thought.

Since it’s a bit of a dead period other than waiting on Sears’ announcement (and I’m halfway through a nephew’s 2.5 hr graduation), I’ll ask the question. Is Oats the greatest basketball coach in Bama’s history? If not, what does he have to accomplish to become it.

Note: I can’t remember if we discussed it in depth during the F4 run, but I don’t think we did.

I'd say second. But another SEC title/S16 or better and he's the man.

Yes.

The amount of tourney wins in his time span in Tuscaloosa is impressive compared to all the rest.

Always thought it was crazy CM only had 1 tourney win.

Yes, the only way you can say no is his duration here at this time but another SEC title and at least another S16 appearance and I don't see how anyone can say no at that point.

A lot of his career coincided with the pre-at large bid era, so you either won your conference tournament or didn't get in. Even after the field expanded to begin accommodating at large bids there were still only a handful of them at the time. The field didn't start resembling the current set up until the 80s.

Yes. He has our only Final Four and it doesn't appear to be a flash in the pan.

Stay here for at least 5-7 more years and win a few more trophies? I really don't know what else he could do to convince anyone who isn't already convinced.
