quote:Schedule mostly. Matchup-wise they're not as tall but they're really good at getting turnovers and can shoot from all 5 spots. I see a lot of Clowney/Gurley playing the 5 in this game. They utilize zone (1-3-1) a good bit which will present some different looks. However, they don't defend the 3 very well and they're a horrible defensive rebounding team (Arkansas rebounded 51% of their misses in Fayetteville).
I haven’t kept up with Mizzou…are they a matchup issue or is this mostly just a “bad placement on the schedule” deal?
Hitting open 3s and crashing the boards should be a recipe for success for us Saturday.

Was pretty impressive how Vandy went to that zone and we immediately sliced it up.
Didn't make any of the shots, but we got 2-3 fantastic looks and they backed out of itm

Or any Saturday, for that matter

Schedule spot + road + way they play can be trouble if they are shooting well
Will be a tough game
I can easily see it devolving into a playground game like Memphis last season, which is not what you want if you're the road team.

But I also know they tweeted something a week ago about how they need support to be able to continue the videos so it’s possible they ran out of money to pay Pringle
Ah, didn't catch that.

We have a team that can genuinely win the whole thing regardless of what happens saturday, but I think that game will be our biggest test of mental toughness to date- recognizing that even a loss doesn't indicate a lack of mental toughness- this is just going to be a tough test a long way from home.
Alright, I'm as guilty of Battered Fan Syndrome as anyone else and I understand we're now in a very unique situation after the past week but I'm at the point I'm no longer doubting this team and acknowledging they're just built differently.
They've risen to the occasion every time a trap game or letdown spot has been mentioned. There are a couple of games on the road that we should have circled as our toughest games remaining but from what we've seen so far, these guys should be ready to play night in and night out going forward.

So apparently there's a group of students at Missouri that call themselves the Antlers. They're apparently giant pieces of shite. A few examples...
So yeah, our guys are gonna hear gonna hear some fricked up shite tomorrow. We'll probably hear a few murder chants. I hope our guys play good when they're pissed. Because it's gonna be bad.
quote:
Best one I remember is Nick Collision talked in interviews several times about his grandfather inspiring him. His grandfather was a WW2 pilot that had been shot down during the war (he survived). Just before the game with Missouri his grandfather died, so the antlers made a giant poster of a plane being shot down.
quote:
They threw bananas at...Walt Wesley, I think.
And then there was 1961 when KU went to Columbia with 6 black kids, they played Dixie during warm-ups, and the students were spitting on them and using the hard R. And there was a 10-minute brawl.
Oh wait, no, that was the head coach and his assistant coach, some guy named Norm. My bad.
quote:
'No Mom Tom' chants and signs towards Thomas Robinson after his Mother passed away. He had also lost his Grandmother and Grandfather all within 3 weeks. Antlers were tasteless. frick mizzou.

I don’t think there are many matchups in the SEC that give us problems. For a team to give us problems, they have to be able to score..North Carolina, Gonzaga. The better teams in this league..Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas aren’t good offensive teams. They can’t score enough unless we really help them out

I say this reluctantly however, we have a good team. Maybe even one of the best in the country.

The analyst lady basically knew her stuff.
She coached at Purdue and UF, as well as the WNBA. She was very good. The play by play was mediocre. But the analyst (Caroline Peck, I think) was way better that what we've had lately.

2 things
(1) The Antlers are a pretty small group at this point I think. As you can imagine in 2023, the university cracked down on them. But they had a well earned reputation.
(2) All of these incidents involved Kansas. They frickin despise Kansas, especially in basketball.

I get the Kansas hate. But damn, those dudes are cold.

The best 4 are Purdue, Houston, Bama, and Kansas in no order.
Kansas losing knocks them out of contention for best team imo. We beat Houston so I give us the edge over them too. So either Bama or Purdue is the best team. Someone said if Edey was 6’11”, they’d be Miss St and I completely agree. I think we’re the best team as of today.

I'm the same. I appreciate some dark humor. But those are as bad as I've ever heard. Only one worse that I've heard is with Steve Kerr and Arizona St.

Ah, didn't catch that.
I’m guessing it is out of deference to the events of the week. That coupled with Coach Stackhouse’s (very respectful) post game remarks about Bama would make the typical post game video, perhaps, best left not done.
