Was there any type of statement regarding what got gOats so fired up that he got "T"ed up last nigh
Based on my observation, it looked like it was just simply having enough of SEC refs being SEC refs.

Averaging over .500 on the road against the best teams in the SEC will translate to many conference titles over time.

In hindsight, Will Wade was a fricking bum who cheated his way to looking like a good coach. A sort of Swamp Gottfried if you will.

quote:I watched Jerry Harper play, and will say that he was the best center in the nation his senior year, even though Kentucky's Bob Burrow was named the All-American. I was in Montgomery when he and Burrow butted heads, and he owned Burrow!
I've been to most Bama home games since the early 90s and he's the most dominant player I've ever seen at Alabama. A wing casually dropping 30 points and collecting 10 boards on the road on 16 FGA is something else.
But Jerry Harper set the bar really high in terms of best to play at Alabama. He averaged 23 points and 22 rebounds per game his senior year.
That night he and the Tide were the 1st team to ever score 100 points against a Kentucky team, and with 3 minutes to go in the game, Adolph Rupp put his head down in his hands and didn't look up for the rest of the game!...101-77!
Oh yeah, Charles Cleveland could be thrown into "the best ever" conversation, too.

And then you have games like last night where the refs are mostly in the background until about 4 minutes left in the half/game when they suddenly decide it is their time to shine and every fricking possession includes a whistle.
Yep. Things like that really disrupt the flow of everything and diminishes the quality of basketball for all parties.

Shout out to all of the officials out there that are nameless to me. They go out there and call a game and do so in a way that makes me hardly even know they are there. They call a foul when they see one and then let play continue
That's the way it should be. The ones you listed are more interested in being noticed than doing their job the right way. I believe they should be held more publicly accountable as well for how they called a game. Questions, interviews, coaches reviews, etc. The coaches aren't against all officials and would put their support behind the ones that do a good job.
I certainly don't have any proof but people may be shocked to learn how much influence organized crime has with officials. With the amount of money involved with sports betting, you have to imagine they consistently get in the ear of officials or use threats to have games go a certain way. There hasn't been any form of gambling over the years that hasn't had organized crime involvement.
And quarters with a reset of team fouls is the better option.

Hell yeah, let's get to .500 on Saturday.

The number of blocking fouls and charges that should just be play on situations has gotten ridiculous. Defensive player leaps into path of offensive player at the last second and has his feet set for 1/10 of a second before contact? Play on. Defensive player is moving his feet with the offensive player and there is body to body contact? Play on. Basketball is a contact sport. Not all contact is a foul.

Dive into the numbers within Alabama's 6-0 start in the SEC:
1) Alabama has won it's 6 SEC games by an average of 21 points. 4 of those wins by 15+. They're averaging 85 ppg while only giving up 64 ppg on average. They have yet to allow 70+ points in conference play.
quote:
2) Before conference play, Alabama was averaging over 15 turnovers per game. In conference play, they have knocked that number down to 11.
I believe that has a lot to do with adding Jaden Bradley into the starting lineup. He does such a good job taking care of the ball.

3) The big difference in Alabama and their competition is being balanced on offense and defense. Here is a breakdown of their first 6 SEC games:
Alabama 3%: 38%
Opp 3%: 24%
Alabama 2%: 54%
Opp 2%: 38%
Huge disparities.

What is crazy is Alabama is not even playing their best right now. When you have a team full of freshmen and underclassmen, then they will only continue to get better. This team has a great mixture of youth and experience. That youth is starting to get major experience as well.

I call middle school and high school basketball....and it's much harder than it looks....it's way easier to see from the stands or tv....not an excuse but you have to watch a lot on the floor and make split second decisions...I love doing it and get some of the discontent sometimes because it does seem warranted...however, you should hear some of the comments from fans that have no clue what they are talking about or the actual rules of the game...it's ridiculous! LOL. For context, I also coached college basketball for 20 years, so I get both sides of it...LOL

Ugh, I got sick after eating them last year and now the thought of them makes me kind of queasy.
I don’t think they made me sick, but they were the first thing to make a reappearance later that night.
