But anyway I was thinking last night as shots weren't falling again, that I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of our guys who have been consistently playing 30 minutes+ the last few weeks to do some "load management" on Saturday @Tex A&M if we had clenched (which we now have).
A good thought except for the fact that Alabama will have 5, yes FIVE, days off after the game on Saturday. I hope Bama goes all out to win on Sat, IMO, it would be nice to win one comfortably, giving the guys a little more confidence in their shot. 19 for 80+ the last three games from downtown.

I was unsure how long we would have between games since we are the one seed in the SEC Tourney. Five days rest will be massive. Gotta get our feet under us before heading to Nashville.

outside of one game the last few weeks, we have started slow and our 3 point % has been horrible for the most part. Any idea what is the cause of this? If it is physical style of play then I feel pretty confident we will see a lot of that in the dance.

Still can’t believe how unconscious they were from 3. At one point with 10ish left in the game I looked up and they were 80% from 3 and 56% from the field. That’s crazy. They’re one of the worst shooting teams in the nation.

A ton of their makes were made with basically no separation and a hand in their face. Half the time my dad and I just looked at each other and shrugged because the defense was perfect, the shot was just better. AU played great last night.

I just think it's a rough stretch. No real cause other than the basketball season is long and you're going to slump at some point. Fortunately we are good enough and resilient enough to find ways to win when we are off.

I said the same thing. We were playing great defense but K.D. Johnson and Wendell Green were hitting NBA level threes with a hand in their face. Kudos to them (even though I detest Auburn) for coming to play. Pearl had them ready to go but thankfully we had the mental toughness to come back and get a tough win. The past three games have felt like NCAA tournament games.

Joseph Goodman tweet, "Spent the news conference with Alabama's Nate Oats trying to ask a question entire time. Had hand raised, following the protocol of Alabama's PR staff of waiting to be called on. News conference came and went. Never called on. Not a good look for Alabama. Disappointed in them."
Again Goodman misleads with his comments, making it look like Nate did not call on him. Technically his statement could be construed as accurate but to the uninitiated or the vulture, the reader could easily infer that it was Nate who ignored him.

Also, what arrogance to assume that his question was more important than those which filled the PC.

"Disappointed in them.", really Goodman, you have always implied that Alabama is a bottom-of-the-barrel program - how could you be disappointed? What do you expect from a scum-of-the-earth program?

that's a fact, the D wasn't all that bad on most.

From the beginning of the season to the point when the shooting occurred, we were #4 on Torvik with the #12 offense and #7 Defense. LINK

From then to before Miller being dragged into this, we were #1 in Torvik with the #8 offense and #2 defense. LINK

From then until last today, we are #84 on Torvik with the #87 offense and #125 defense. LINK

Is it psychological? Is it fatigue? The answer is tough to point out exactly. Seeing such a dramatic drop on our defensive efficiency rating tells me it's probably a combination of the two. Half of playing good defense is hustling. Especially this late in the year, where there should be good enough chemistry to know your spots and rotations.

I've got to wish we had hit this slump early in February and have already worked our way out of it. But we still have one game, the SEC tournament, and a basically home games for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament. That's plenty of time to get close to where we were before. Because because the team that won its first 11 SEC games by insane margins is one that could go very deep.

Maybe the length of the season has gotten to some of the freshmen. Miller included. He played awesome at South Carolina last week but they suck. Arkansas and Auburn shut him down for the most part. The experienced players on the team have showed up. Quinerly being front and center. Hopefully the break between the A&M game and the SEC tourney will give them a chance to rest mentally and physically.

Brandon Miller is just missing wide open shots. He'll be fine and this team will as well. I actually think by us winning last night helps us refocus in a way.

Auburn reminded me of Oklahoma...they hit wild shots and they blacked out from three point range (60%) but guess what... you'll never see it AGAIN.

I think the early tip on Saturday can be an advantage. No sitting around for half a day on the road and having to maintain focus. Wake up, eat, meet/shoot around/walk through and just play ball. Straight business trip.

Agreed, a win like that can kind of reinvigorate the team and the pressure of winning the SEC is now off their back. Looking forward to the long break, I think they'll break out of their mini slump soon.

Auburn played their best games of the season against Alabama. Shocking, right ? They gave us everything we could handle when we played at their place the first time. Last night was even more pronounced because their tournament hopes are in danger of going down in flames like the Hindenburg.

That's pathetic. There is too much money and too many well paid people running an organization of that size to ever have high school event type stuff like that happen (and even worse that it happens consistently).
This appears to be a real problem. As long as I can remember Alabama has often seemed incompetent in its administration of its athletic programs and interface with the public. They are bailed out by sometimes evaluating coaches well and being able to attract good/great coaches because of Alabama's history and the passion of its fans - and finally by the phenomenal success of king football. I like Byrne, while somewhat goofy, he seems to be a good coach evaluator. This began long before him. Don't know if he too is incompetent in mundane and day2day issues or is handcuffed by a good-ole-boy network or what.

In the Miles matter, though I'm totally behind Brandon and Oats, and even the University on substance, the optics could have been handled better. Someone posted a few days ago, "the A team should have been used in this matter", my reply was, "does Alabama have an A team?"

AU and others seem to trump Alabama in all of these areas. The incomparable organizational genius of Coach Saban obscures a lot of Alabama's admin warts, IMO, Witt also covered a lot ills and Mal's genuine love for the University and personal warmth rendered most potential critics helpless to want to criticize. But they and their influence are gone now.

Saban handles media nonsense so well on his own that we really don't need a true PR team for football stuff. I just hope this fiasco has opened the administration's eyes to what modern "journalism" is all about and they take the appropriate steps to ensure that the next time one of our programs has something newsworthy, but not in a good way, happen to it we aren't on the defensive the entire time. Really, this whole thing could have been snuffed out in the beginning but we just sat on our hands and decided to let fricking Al.com, Clay Travis, and Paul Finebaum set the narrative on this shite.

Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky

First chart is eFG% on each type of shot (1.5 x (3PA/3PM)) for the season. The second chart is the % of shots from each location.

Regardless of his mini rant a few weeks ago, Muss' teams really don't shoot a ton of midrange shots. They shoot a TON of shots at the rim, almost as many as us. And they aren't a good outside shooting team, so it makes sense to just ramrod it at the rim with their long guys and hope for the best.

Kentucky though..........they are an above average to elite 3 point shooting team. And they refuse to shoot 3s. Kentucky shoots 38.4% on 2s outside of the paint and 36.3% on 3s.
