In the Miles matter, though I'm totally behind Brandon and Oats, and even the University on substance, the optics could have been handled better. Someone posted a few days ago, "the A team should have been used in this matter", my reply was, "does Alabama have an A team?"
That was me. I think there is a fair argument that Saban probably whipped comms people into being adequate for him but that was not internalized as the comms policy writ large.

IMO, much of it, not all, but much of it has been the schedule.
First of all Alabama caught name teams at a bad time (Mich St had 2 big time starters out) or they weren't as advertised (Mich St again & NC).
Bama was blasted by UConn and beaten soundly at quasi-home by good, not great, Gonzaga.
OTOH, great win at Houston with Miller no FG, though 8 late clutch FTs.
Good close win, though at home, vs 38 Memphis.
The other is that Bama's SEC schedule was HEAVILY back loaded. The first 11 games:
MSU 43 (2), both times when their NET was worse and before they improved their offense enough to be scary.
OM 132 home
UK 21 home before they got it together
LSU 155 (2)
Ark 15 without Smith and ?Brazille?
Vandy 84 (2) one without Robbins, the other his first game back
Missouri 49
Florida 60 home but with Castleton, probably 40-45 with him
Next 7:
Auburn 37 (2) struggled in both
Tennessee 3 lost
Georgia home 149 blowout
USCe 233 struggled
Ark 15 home with Smith, their top scorer, playing. Struggled
A&M 26

I think the early tip on Saturday can be an advantage. No sitting around for half a day on the road and having to maintain focus. Wake up, eat, meet/shoot around/walk through and just play ball. Straight business trip
That's a damn good point. I'd love to see that switch flip and the team get hot again. Hell, just getting back to 35% from 3 and single digit turnovers makes us hard as hell to beat.
One of the things everyone said for the first 20sih games, was that even if a couple of starters had a bad night, other people seemed to always step up and we'd still get an easy win. But a lot of guys have gone cold at the same time.
But there's still time and a couple opportunities for the pendulum to swing back.

Regardless of his mini rant a few weeks ago, Muss' teams really don't shoot a ton of midrange shots.
I think that was more of a "frick you" directed at Oats than a serious argument. I don't think they like each other. Honestly I think Wade was the only SEC coach who did get along with Muss.
And Kentucky's shot selection is just horrible. They'll pump fake a defender outside of the 3pt line just to dribble forward one fricking step for like a 20 foot 2. If they didn't have a handful of really good shooters they'd be awful.

I do think we need to note that, especially in the home games, we've become accustomed to Alabama winning games by 25-30 points and immediately going up 30-12 or something this season (and as noted, a lot of those were against average to bad teams).
While we watch and know we aren't playing our best, winning close games against good but not great teams is not some kind of terrifying occurrence. It happens in college basketball all the time. Just in the past 2 weeks......
- Arizona lost by 1 to Arizona State at home
- Kansas won by 2 vs West Virginia at home
- Kansas won by 4 vs Texas Tech at home
- Baylor won by 6 vs Oklahoma State at home
- Texas won by 2 in OT vs Oklahoma at home
- Marquette won by 6 vs DePaul at home
- Houston won by 8 vs Memphis (w/o Davis) at home
We need to play better for sure, but we found a way last night and we basically controlled the last 10 minutes of the Arkansas game and led by double digits until the near collapse at the end. And on top of all that, we are somehow 3-0 in games where our opponents shot 51.0% from 3PT and we shot 22.5% from 3PT (and against Carolina and Auburn I'd wager 75% of those 3s were either contested or a good 4-5 steps behind the line).
We absolutely look like a group that is just kind of worn down right now, though. Mentally, physically, all of it. Need to get back to Tuscaloosa Saturday night and just let these dudes lay around and decompress for 2-3 days before Nashville.

Can we note that 2 straight games the other team threw some defensive wrinkles at us that really stifled what we did for a half. We came out in the 2nd half armed with adjustments and blew the doors off 2 Top 25 defenses.........and we couldn't buy a 3 pointer in either game.
Arkansas (#11 defense)
1st half - 28 pts (45% 2pt, 10% 3pt)
2nd half - 58 pts (68% 2pt, 14% 3pt)
Auburn (#22 defense)
1st half - 33 pts (53% 2pt, 23% 3pt)
2nd half/OT - 57 pts (65% 2pt, 28% 3pt)

Probably a dumb question but are we locked in to the #1 seed in the SEC tournament?
Posted on 3/2/23 at 6:27 pm to CaptSpaulding
Yes. We will play at noon CT next Friday.

I don’t really worry too much about eventually making offensive adjustments. Defense is another story though.

We coming!!
Load Dom Welch, Rylan Griffen, & Nimari Burnett up with minutes and rest some of our guys legs.

Switching to use Miller in more ball screens against the faceguarding defense helped.

If Q and Clowney come back do yall see us ranked preseason #1

That halftime adjustment trend against top defenses is such a great sign of coaching but even more so the coachability of the players.

In the first half, we never figured out what we could do to get open looks. They parked Broome under the goal and stayed on our guys outside the line. We got sort of outcoached early. That's why those big guys fouling out was huge late.

No. Not unless we added a couple immediate transfer contributors.

Ladies tip on SECN in about ten minutes.

Yup - but we'll be a Top 10 team. Especially if Q returns.
PG - Bradley/Q
SG - Sears/Burnett/Cosby
SF - Griffen/Walters
PF - Clowney/Dioubate
C - Bediako/Pringle
That's a very good and deep roster (especially if Bradley/Griffen/Clowney take steps forward), but probably not #1 or even top 5 nationally.

I'd think it would be top 5 at least. Who else returns all that?

You might be right - it's a really good roster with tons of experience and room for growth from this year to next in a lot of spots.
