Well, our $500M athletic department should be able to find a way to make it that easy.

And to Byrne's credit, my guess is he will. He doesn't seem to let problems sit around and fester.

We need a huge pool and a lazy river. Maybe even a water slide. That'll bring the folks in

There is at least one, and if I'm not mistaking two of all of that on campus already . Although in the stadium would be dope.

Gambling and babysitters will get me to go practically anywhere nowadays .

But too many out of state kids to expect a student section filled for North West Missouri Tech or whatever.

This^^^ Our student body looks like an episode of Jersey Shore now.

I can add some things about enrollment. In 2008 UA had over 70% of the student body from the state of AL. Now it sits at 40%. The college is focused on money and building pipelines to the other state. Alabama in 2016 gave out over 130 million to out of state students for free tuition that was merit based. But they receive 18k each year for their room & board which is a lot higher then what an instate would pay.

Out-of-state enrollment at University of Alabama

Top states, 2017
Georgia 2,595
Texas 1,915
Florida 1,789
Illinois 1,623
Tennessee 1,549
California 1,271
Virginia 826
North Carolina 780
New York 736
New Jersey 736

As someone mentioned these new students do not grow up in the state and do not have the ties to the program or family tradition to the team. They come to UA because it is cheaper to get an education then instate in some of their states and easier to get in. I do not mean academically the requirements are less because last years incoming class avg. was around 3.8 with 1/3 having a 4.0, but in states like Illinois where the population is far greater then AL there are just less spots at the instate schools.

To be honest a great business model and why the school has so much new construction going on but these are not die hard home grown football fans.

But how long were those games compared to today? Our 1st home game this season was 3 hrs 30 min from kickoff to final whistle. We won by 50.

And I watched every second of it from the stands.

Not my fault that there are so many shitty fans.

I had a bunch of HD channels by the time those games occurred, although I don't remember if I had HD for CFB in those particular seasons.

I'd love to go and take the family but I can't afford 5 tickets along with all the other expense that comes with it.

You could have had tickets to last weeks game for $15 apiece. Parking is $25. That's $100 for a day of entertainment if you pack some sandwiches.

It cost more then that when said and done if not close to TTown. And then even those tickets you are talking about are not worth the paper they are printed on if you have to sit in the nose bleeds.

Also for the record I agree with others. I still get to at least one game a season now but the experience is not the same as it was when I started going in the 70's and continued on every year until present. But the availability on TV compared to the cost to attend is not really worth the travel. I can go to the local watch party with 100 really die hard UA fans and enjoy the whole game for $30 and be home in 30 minutes after the game.

I also think the schedule has to do with it as well. I for one hate the neutral site games and would rather play home and home series with other power 5 teams. I also hate these low quality OOC games and will not give my money for the rent to win games. That is just me. When almost half your home games are with low quality OOC teams and the others the expense to attend is out of the reach for so many I can understand why people would rather stay home.

I like the new package with the new suites coming. I considered investing and I have a family of 7 which would be an annual 15k-25k invested for 10 years, but just can not justify it with the current scheduling of half the games being not worth the travel for me and the family.

As mentioned I look to go to at least one game a year and if possible to a venue I have yet to be to. This year will take 2 of mine with me to the LSU game as I have not been there yet.

I get the OOC schedule complaints, but it really hasn't changed much over the last 20-30 years. We've lost a game to the neutral sites, but there have long been cream puffs on the schedule. What has changed is the drastic increase in ticket prices. For some odd reason I use a ticket stub from the 2001 UCLA game as a bookmark. Price on that ticket is $30. Guessing if UCLA was on this year's schedule the price on the ticket would be around $100.

I know the prices for the OOC games are still relatively low compared to the SEC games, but when taken at a price per game for a season ticket package it's gotten ridiculous.

Thinking out loud here and it might be a bad idea, but what if schools went back to giving visiting teams better seats? 10+ years ago, visiting fans got a decent amount of lower level seats at most stadiums. Now, they’re usually scattered around the worst upper deck seats. Which makes sense because why give up any kind of home field advantage? Why give visiting fans better seats? It goes against conventional wisdom.

However...has that move made fans feel more complacent about their role in the game? Has it dissuaded opposing fans from attending away games? Has it taken away from the spectacle of a college game? Just throwing it out there.

I don't think that has had much of an impact. It probably has dissuaded some fans from going to away games. I know I have no interest in sitting in those end zone upper deck seats in Gainesville or College Station, just like I don't at BDS. I'd imagine some visiting fans coming to BDS don't like those end zone upper deck seats either. And we do seem to be getting more visitor allotment tickets back than in years' past, but didn't we also increase the number we gave them?

Ultimately I just think the cost, the inconvenience, and every game being in HDTV are the primary reasons for the problem. A lot of secondary factors in play to varying degrees. Speaking of, I was talking to my uncle last night about this issue as a result of this thread. He had season tickets from the late 70's through 2012. He stopped getting season tickets because of all the changes to parking and tailgating on campus and the hassle it had become.

But, they claim there is a 30,000 person waiting list for season tickets. I think the answer is, Tua plays the 1st and 4th quarter.

Well I am still on the Tide Pride waiting list. They may have missed their opportunity with me however, now that my daughter has graduated the wisdom and logic of paying for Louisiana Lafayette/Monroe/Tech is becoming much more difficult to justify.

Just get rid of the damn student section. Let students have first dibs on certain tickets in certain locations at a deep discount. Then, with a week to go, free everything up for the gp.

I’m tired of hearing about this. Get rid of it.
