Auburn was definitely considered a better school till recent years

Come on. Every school has their strengths and weaknesses. Auburn was a little better in a few engineering disciplines, we were better in others. They didn't have anything close to our law and business schools, etc.

I don't think they did that at all. We've kept our in-state enrollment fairly consistent and increasing the OOS enrollment because they are a cash cow. Auburn just started increasing their enrollment a little bit. If anything, I'd bet our in-state applications have never been higher.

Not true at all. I will share data later. UA is losing in state students.

Losing what? We are gaining alumni all around the country now. How can that be detrimental?

It's a state University that massively serves non-state kids over state kids. And, I'm not convinced a lot of those OOS kids leave and go back across the country and will support their alma mater (financially especially) the same way local kids did and do. A lot of them leave with joint-rooting interests as it is (I deal with a few of them professionally). They enjoyed it and like Alabama, but they certainly don't love it and barely if ever go back (and they live in Atlanta). We're graduating a generation of the kids Ole Miss has always had. Had fun, wear the stuff, don't really give that much a shite about the school or sports.

Again, I think pounding the pavement in Dallas and Houston and Atlanta and DC was smart and good for us. I don't think the University of Alabama should be 2/3 kids from outside Alabama. And I'm an out of state kid and current out of state resident.

That only showed the change between this year and last year. That "data" doesn't really show or suggest anything.

I am an OOS kid the Alumini association gets my money and I have donated to my individual school as well. Tide Pride will never see a donation from me personally.

I use to make it back to a game a year but life got in the way with two small kids now. Plus getting accommodations in Tuscaloosa is such a hassle for game weekends. I focused more on championship, bowl and away games.

All the hassles with attending even if I was closer I don’t think that would change too much.

I was there 2000 to 2004 and agree, for the most part. I do remember 2000 when the Iron Bowl was played, ln the sleet, in BDS for the first time in 100 years. (Auburn-9,Tide-0) There were people driving up and down University that literally couldn't give a ticket away. True story.

I will say that as a student we got the entire season of tix for like $5 each. I understand students only get a few games now. Which makes it hard to understand why they dont want to take advantage of their limited opportunities.

I was talking to an alum the other day and told him we won 3 games much freshman year. He said they won three nattys while he was there. What a lucky bitch.

Well said. Although....That was like getting blue balls for an entire college student career. It was fun though... for a few minutes.

I think getting the massive HD screen in our stadium will help tremendously. It allows fans to see the game live, and see the close up HD footage they see at home.

The 4 corner screens we have now kinda suck. They've been there since like 07

Other than that, it's the OOS students 1000%. It's not just the number of OOS students - it's that when state students are the minority, it alters the entire student culture. It's no longer rooted in die hard Alabama fandom - it's rooted in social events and going to bars

70% of the students used to know the fight song before even attending Alabama. Now 70% don't even care. That makes a big cultural difference

I was at this game and I don't believe I have ever been more miserable

If you go to the data sections for previous years you will see the decline in enrollment of freshmen in state students. Not just from this Fall to last.

And if you go here:
LINK / you can compare 2008 through 2017 and see that I am correct.

In 2008, UA had 18,802 in state students. By last Fall, that number was down to only 15,965. This Fall, it was down to 15,394. That is a big loss of in state students, especially in light of the huge growth in out of state students. I don't mind the latter, I do mind the former.

By far... worst game I've ever attended. That's saying something, considering I took my future wife to Saban vs. La. Monroe for her first Bama game ever. Yep. We all know how that turned out.

That's not a good trend, at all.

If any of you know a student in Alabama who has a GPA of 3.5, let them know about the new scholarships for even students with an ACT of only 21. I give props to the UA admin for finally taking steps to attract more in state students.

All this in-depth analysis is ridiculous. Just cut the size of the student section by two thirds. Let the little turds watch it on TV.

We need more of the Walmart sidewalk fans in the stands. There’s about two million of them in state.

The school is twice as big as it was 20 years ago.

As an alum, it bothers me that so many of fellow alumni look down on the sidewalk alumni. I can recall going to a game with my sidewalk alumni father. He tried to join in on a conversation with some alumni who were sitting right next to us on the bus to the stadium and they just ignored him. Could be part of the reason why he now pulls for Auburn.

Seems like they would be like 1000 times worse about it.

What makes you think they ignored him because he didn't go to UA?
