For those who believe that the S&C program was stagnant, I would like to know what, specifically, they are talking about.

The requirements of the game have changed and don't require overbulked behemoths like it used to.

Yeah, the "he will be a 290lb DE in no time" joke about an incoming freshman linebacker is popular around here but there is some kernel of truth to it. We do tend to bulk guys up a lot despite the fact that for every throwback, run first offense you face these days you have to play 10 RPO based spread teams. Guys need to be quicker and faster, not bigger and stronger.

Sounds like we have a bitter departure.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Shaud Williams be the strength coach. He’s the assistant strength coach at Oregon.

PODCAST: Cochran set to join UGA staff
quote:

On the heels of reports of Scott Cochran's imminent departure from Alabama as head strength and conditioning coordinator to Georgia in an on-the-field capacity, BOL staffers Travis Reier and Charlie Potter took to the Built By BamaOnLine Podcast Monday afternoon to discuss what the latest attrition to the Crimson Tide staff might mean.

Among the ramifications that were covered:
* How the latest departure of a Nick Saban era lifer might be perceived by those outside the program.
* Reasonable candidates to replace Cochran in a role he turned into one of the more visible in all of college football.
* The irony in Cochran joining UGA.
* What Cochran's biggest value as an on-the-field assistant might be.

Might have something to do with the way Kirby departed as well as the transfer portal

The pearl clutchers need to march down there and tell Saban that he isn’t giving Cochran the amount of respect that he deserves

Good. The timing of his departure was planned out by Kirby. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. And don’t come crying back to Saban when you need another job.

In talking today to Nick Saban, he’s quick to credit Scott Cochran for what he meant to @AlabamaFTBL. But Saban also told me Cochran wanted to pursue a new career path as an on-the-field coach, which Saban understands, but Saban wasn’t ready to go that route with him at Bama.

Good - not the time for a distraction.

The show must go on. As others have said, Kirby & Co do not get access to the program/coaches/players anymore. Iron curtain.

It’s ok.

Change is the one constant in life.

You guys realize that one day, in the next 2-5 years, our head coach will leave as well.

This. There is nothing in Cochran’s history that makes me think he can coach special teams. It appears that this is more likely Kirby trying to capture that “Alabama” magic in a bottle. He continues to be obsessed with anything related to Alabama, and not do his own things. Frankly, I think it will be his downfall. Cristobal and Pruitt have “borrowed” some, but they have done a good job making their own way and brand. Let’s bring in some new blood with fresh ideas.

I don't think coaching special teams is that hard. I think with a month to prep, I could be ready to coach and implement a sound ST scheme across punting, kicking, and kicking off and the associated returns. It's more about just having another guy on staff to do it so that no one else has to. But it isn't that hard.

This is something I have wondered for a while. With the crazy amount of injuries, I wonder if this played at all into this decision. But we will miss recruiting and his attitude with the players.

I mean, I can't really blame him for wanting to progress to a goal of his (I assume position coaching maybe?) but 500k to make kids run is a pretty damn nice job.

Exactly why I’m not even mad about it; I
injuries have been awful the last few years.

If I'm Saban, I wouldn't let a Georgia Assistant Coach talk to my team, either.

I'm curious as to wanting to know if someone unconnected to Bama in the sports medical world has any idea as to why we've had so many injuries, especially in the preseason
