Agreed. The days of holding good teams to 10 points and 200 yards of offense are over. That said, I refuse to believe what we've seen on the field the last 2 years is the best we can hope for in this era of football.

This is a good post, and I'm not inherently disagreeing with it, however everyone needs to remember that we are currently living in an offensive Renaissance in college football. Everybody is scoring more points than they were just a few years ago, and everyone needs to keep that in mind when having this type of conversation.

DC's tend to talk about "getting their defense off the field." It sounds like more than a reasonable goal for me.

Bama still looks good getting off the bus, but chasing smaller players has not gotten this defense off the field any quicker.

Not everything is a zero sum game. Sometimes there multiple factors that contribute to a particular outcome. Not sure why that's hard for you to understand.

Not sure where I said anything was a zero sum game. But ok.

quote:

Why did our defense struggle against the good offenses they played in 2018? We had a healthy Moses and Mac Wilson manning the middle and Q Williams wrecking sh!t up front. Plenty of talent and experience. And yet they got lit up for 40+ both playoff games and gave up 31 against Arky, almost 30 against a pedestrian UGA offense, lots of yards against several others. Our primary blitz package has been the very lame/ineffective delayed LB blitz for years now. Say what you will about Clemson or LSU but their defenses are moving around, shifting, you never know where the blitz is coming from--but you know it's coming. No coincidence that those teams have won 3/4 natties. I'm not saying our defense needs to be completely trashed, but I am saying some tweaks and fresh ideas are needed.

From what I understand, Mac Wilson struggled to call the plays and play his position(what Shane Lee had to do).

Beyond that, Tosh was just horrible. If you go back after the Clemson game you'll see I was extremely upset about the defensive play calling in that game. All game long we rarely put pressure on Lawerence. He sat in the pocket constantly, and Tosh brought many 3 man rushes which plain out fricking sucked.

Thus the reason why Tosh was fired after the game.

In fact, before I figured out Boz was full of shite and believed that Golding called that game, I straight up melted over the hire.

And I'm not sure where anyone gets the idea that delayed blitzes are our primary package, or that they don't have a role in the defense.

Well done - I didn't see a thread about the strength coach leaving turning into a GOLDDDDINNNNNG thread.

We have a handful of truly terrible posters on this board that are close to ruining it for everyone else. Hopefully mods here decide to clean things up before we all find other boards to migrate to.

No, no, I'm sure prevatt, 3down10, and the others will come to agreement (or unite the entire world behind their stances and leave the loser left to be locked up in a mental institute as the sole and fanatical disbeliever in the world) if only they're allowed to shite up every active thread for the next year or so. Can't you see how important this is?

Don't lump me into this. I said my piece long ago and have nothing more to say.

Having said that, it's the off-season, and so folks can talk about whatever. I don't care too much. If a thread devolves into another Golding slapfest on page 5 or 7 or whatever, just start a new thread about another good topic. Complaining about how a days-old thread devolved is bad forumsmanship.

Just start new threads and quit complaining.

You are both useless shits. The two of you should get together with asshat21 and start your own site where you will quit screwing up this place for other people. For the most part I just pretend y'all don't exist here but you keep being total frick-ups.

You'll have to decide if talking about downsizing our defense and running schemes that take advantage of small ball is exclusively a Golding thing. It's quite possible Golding could find religion this spring and decide to match up to spread teams a little differently. I would be happy with that.

And aren't you the guy that just helped turn the USC thread into a Liberty college special?

What? I wasn't responding to you, I was really responding to others who find a way to turn every thread into a Golding vs Non-Golding talking point special. I'm not even mad about it, just impressed.

I responded to posts that had basically dominated the entire thread......And let me assure you my belief system and Jerry Falwell Jr are not at all in line with one another.

Just wondering. My handle was on it. And it's kinda hard to know exactly how we all are divided up over here. I could wish we had different hardware for this site. It is what it is.

So lots of threads change very suddenly in these here parts. I don't mind it that much. Just taking note that we all seem to travel the highways and byways of this site with great frequency.

And Liberty College was me being facetious. I got to find an icon/button for that.

Totally understand - it's hard to figure out both who is being responded to and read sarcasm as you noted below.

I generally try to quote someone if I'm specifically responding to them, but not everyone does that so it's not always easy to tell.

He was the one who turned it into a Golding thread.

He started talking about Venables and how they were doing so much better with smaller players etc and that our players were too big/bulky.

I never mentioned Golding, but pointed out our defense did better against a common opponent(who happened to be the #1 offense) than Venables and Clemson did.

Tw1sted knows his shite (pun intended) and has been a respected poster for quite some time.

You've been clown shoes from a very recent Jump Street.

Here's some good advice: Take a timeout, sit the next few plays out, and come back in a few weeks with more "better football opinions" and less "complete asshattery".
