From my understanding of the situation, Napier has turned them down twice, Chiz withdrew, and the Army and Air Force guys aren’t legitimate candidates. Sark and Grantham are really the only two realistic possibilities at the moment. I’m sure they are scrambling for other possibilities as they need this settled now because it’s starting to resemble UT’s last search fiasco.

It's just not a pretty situation to walk into. The roster, particularly on offense, doesn't look like something you'll be able to really make work from day 1, a big reason Moorhead got fired was apparently a bunch of inmates running the asylum type off field issues, and the fanbase still hasn't really come down off of the high from Mullen and remembered that 6-6 or 7-5 isn't that bad at State relative to their unfortunate program history. Walking into that is just begging to be on the hot seat going into year 3 after a couple of 4-8/5-7 type seasons.

I was kinda surprised when UK didn't get him, but seems they are a lot better off for it with Stoops.

Leach recruiting vs Kiffin. MSU might as well just concide in state recruiting in the introductory press conference. Apparently they wanted to give the job to Joe Judge the special teams coach from the Patriots that got the Giants job no one ever heard of. They are the Cleveland Browns of college. No one with options wants the job.

He's coached in Lubbock, is Starkville worse?

Leach isn't a strong recruiter but he's well known and schematically his offenses get it done. If Leach is paired up with a strong DC he can make some things happen. And, come to think of it, I'd bet that MSU would give Leach the biggest budget for his staff and recruiting that he's ever had.

Pullman Wash. isnt a place to get excited about either. Iirc, the stadium only seats about 35K fans. He's done a remarkable job at tough places to recruit and win, competing against more prominent programs with more re$ources and better facilities. He's a very good fit at a program like MSU.

Starkville would actually be the least remote place he has been a head coach.

It'd be fun to have Leach in the SEC. Lets give Golding to MSU be their DC with Leach. Pete has recruiting ties in MS, LA & TX -- good fit there. And Pete kinda looks like a pirate.

They have to realize how much harder it is to win at the Miss schools then it is at LSU.

I've wondered how well LSU would be if the state were split into two or more P5 schools. Mississippi, which has less population than Louisiana has 2 .

Agreed. LSU and Ohio State should never be bad in athletics. Both states are full of elite talent and don't have to compete with anyone in their own state. It's quite remarkable how mediocre LSU's history is considering the talent there

The rumor is if they lose Leach they are going to pool every resource and go hard after Pete Carrol.

You've got to be kidding. Carroll is a West Coast guy. He waited until an NFL team out West opened before he left USC.

I was talking about WSU which I thought was too ridiculous for any one to take seriously, but MSU is something else. I would give anything just to sit in on a Pete Carroll interview in Starkville.
