What is it with other programs poaching coaches from Saban's staff? Every year we lose someone

If Sark goes to the other dawgs it's only going to increase the odds that one of Saban's boys finally gets the best of their teacher.

West:
Miss State
Mississippi
Texas A&M

East:
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina

How wild is this very real reality? And Napier just turned down the opportunity to join starkvegas. Something tells me that the dawgs are just going to keep looking until one of Saban's boys says yes.

Odds to beat Saban first

Kirby Even
Lane 5 to 2
Jimbo 3 to 1
Saban Retires unbeaten 4 to 1
Pruitt 5 to 1
Sark 15 to 2
Other 10 to 1
Muschamp 250 to 1

What's the odds he does it his first season? After that, he seems very much the coach with diminishing returns.

I do like 5 to 2 that his stay doesn't exceed 3 years.

Bama should do everything in its power to keep Sark. His offense has been crazy good - regardless of QB. Give him everything he wants - especially having a new QB starting next year.

Offer him up as the highest paid OC in the business.

Do it.

Now.

No, don’t. Alabama can replace Sark. Sark can’t replace Alabama. He did a good job this year but he came back with the understanding that he wouldn’t be one and done. He needs to fulfill his side of the agreement before he goes chasing a head position. If he takes the State job, he’s effectively limiting his head coaching career to 4-5 more years tops. He should be patient and more selective and he can be very successful somewhere outside the SEC west.

If Sark leaves he leaves. Sark will be fine and so will we.

It's not for Bama's sake that Sark should avoid a head coach position. It's for his own sake. At his last (granted: high profile) HC job he experienced extremely serious problems.

Sark should realize that it's better to be out of the spotlight that comes with being a HC at a power 5 school. After all, it is cooler in the shade.

I’ve got no problem with Sark wanting another go at the command chair. But to do it now and to do it at State is almost a slap in the face to Saban.

As of now Sark doesn't have an offer. Business as usually at UA so far. We are monitoring though.

Based on what evidence? Aaron Suttles saying there's "real interest on both sides"? For all we know, that means MSU has contacted his agent, and his agent didn't immediately spit on the phone.

I'm gonna need more than that to start worrying about it.

Sources now telling me that Sark might have turned down the gig or things may have stalled out for now.

From my understanding of the situation, Napier has turned them down twice, Chiz withdrew, and the Army and Air Force guys aren’t legitimate candidates. Sark and Grantham are really the only two realistic possibilities at the moment. I’m sure they are scrambling for other possibilities as they need this settled now because it’s starting to resemble UT’s last search fiasco.

I'm with the folks who are tired of huge staff turnover. I wonder how this would make Bryce feel?

That's the part I don't like, because they took our best coordinator.

If he is so desperate for an HC gig that he would take that position he needs to go. He really can’t be trusted and has already proved it several times. No need in delaying the inevitable.

I doubt Bryce committed to Bama on account of Sark. Sure they had a prior relationship but I don't think that relationship is why he committed. Saban is another matter.

If Grantham wants it after being there as DC, then he's probably the guy they should hire if continuity is also their goal. If Sark does well there (relative to how difficult it is to win there) Sark would probably have more suitors wanting to hire him away than Grantham would if he did equally well. Sark's time in the NFL and with Saban and his broad recruiting reach would be appealing to good programs nation wide.
