You can't deny DeBoer's success. Many of the complaints just stem from fans in denial about how CFB is changed, and even Saban was slipping before he departed.
It's a new world. We don't have the biggest NIL budget. I think we made a good hire in DeBoer who took a team full of 3 stars to the championship game.

Cig looks to be the best coach but who would have know that? Would have been an unpopular hire for sure. Guy can flat out coach. Hindsight is 20/20.
I thought Norvelle would have been as good as CDB. I was wrong. And seems like a wuss.
Did not want Kiff and the BS in BR is why. Clemson sucks and LaTech held them close. He’s a great play caller but they may struggle this year.
Need a good coach and a ton of NIL if you want to win now.

Probably not. I thought he was the best option at the time. Still do, unfortunately who knew Cignetti would turn into a pretty good version of Nick.

Okay. Even if he was, he did nothing to warrant an extension. The standard here shouldn't be what he has 'accomplished' last season - the standard is to play at a championship level. Nothing he has shown has been that.
Evidence of that is today's game; the home game vs South Carolina, losing at Vanderbilt; getting blown the frick out with playoff implications against a dog shite OU team; bowl loss vs a Michigan who could hardly complete a forward pass; revenge game loss at home vs OU; blown out vs a dog shite FSU team after they spent all offseason talking shite; blow out in the SECCG; blow out in the Rose Bowl.
Yall have made so many excuses for a man whose career was lucky Penix make his "great offense" look better than it was. Mediocre coach.

I 100% agree that giving him an extension this early in his career was stupid but beyond that, the panic is overblown. Since 2024, he's won only three fewer games than Kirby. And unlike Kirby, most of what he inherited was the leftover wreckage of a roster that almost lost to a 4-9 Arkansas and a 5-7 Auburn. A roster that struggled with a South Florida team that got annihilated by Western Kentucky the week before and then got blown out at home by Texas. And lest we forget... that was all under the GOAT.
You're taking a huge risk firing a coach who's been nearly on par with Kirby unless you have someone like Cignetti lined up to replace him. And let's not act lile Kirby has been operating on an entirely different plane either here lately...
4-9 Kentucky was less than a minute away from embarrassing Smart the year before last. Georgia Tech literally only lost to Kirby in overtime thanks to two absolutely bullshite calls. Kirby also managed to dodge Pavia, he still hasn't won a 12 team playoff game and was embarrassed by another team from Indiana. Oh, and he's 1-2 vs Deboer with the lone win coming in a rematch where we had 13 freaking players out injured.
And I'm not saying KD is Smart. Im just saying that firing a coach who has been relatively close to Kirby's results without having a legitimate upgrade already lined up would be a massive gamble that will almost certainly backfire.
Everyone wanted Lane. Everyone wanted Sark. Everyone wanted Lanning... strangely, no one is pining for those coaches anymore.

I mean, let’s not forget the fact that the GOAT, to whom he will CONSTANTLY be compared, is still a central figure on campus and in college football in general.
It’s not like CNS retired to the lake house and watches the ducks Shiite on the dock.
When you consider all stuff CKD has dealt with, it’s been fairly successful.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse having to point out Milroe literally gave away two of those games as well
My only gripe is I wish he just benched Milroe against Michigan but that was a true rock and a hard place situation given it was a draft situation

We were spoiled with Saban and the further we get away from the dynasty the more people will realize that. That time in CFB is over, no team is doing that with NIL and the transfer portal. There is going to be far more parity from here on out and the struggle wins against "lesser teams" are going to be more frequent. For everyone.
No CKD is not Saban, no one is. Not even Cignetti. Yes he won a NC at a place no one thought possible but that is also due in part to what CFB is now. Also taking advantage of an easy schedule and an older team, also a product of the landscape of college sports.
I would love to see us dominate and make their arse quit still and that will probably happen on occasion, but it's not going to be an every game affair like it was during the GOAT's run. Even the GOAT was showing that it was going to be this way in his last couple years. It is frustrating seeing how we play sometimes, but every team has that right now. We're not accustomed to that thanks to Saban.
The old adage of "just win" is more true now than it has been in a long time. We're 3-0, the team has improved every week. The run game looks light years better than last year. Russell is gaining confidence and getting comfortable. RCW is looking like his old self. The defense struggled yesterday but the offense picked them up when needed and the defense made just enough stops. Saban loved wins like this, lets take that into USCe and see if we continue to improve.
