Have you seriously looked at Lane's record against ranked teams it is bad?

I had this discussion with some FSU fans I went to the game with last Saturday. While walking through campus back to our ride, one of them who was clearly upset with the loss was hung up on this "DeBoer isn't a fit for Bama."
I've heard that before. Mostly from casuals and various media folks, but from Bama fans as well. Every time I hear this I can't help but think "so what's your solution? Who do we get?"
Let's say DeBoer "isn't a fit" hypothetically. In that case we need to replace him, so who are we doing that with? I've heard Lanning, Sark, Kiffin, Mario, Cignetti...
He's undefeated against Lanning, beating him multiple times.
Undefeated against Sark as well.
Is 2-1 vs Kirby.
Kiffin clearly wanted the job, but the powers that be didn't want him.
Mario isn't leaving Miami.
Cignetti seems to be happy building his own legacy at Indiana, away from Saban's shadow
So who else? I'm not saying there aren't good coaches out there, but the fact is in that moment some dudes probably didn't want to follow Saban. KDB did, and I applaud him for it.
We're in year 3.
We've been to the SEC championship.
We've won an away game in the playoffs, avenging a regular season loss.
We're currently undefeated.
Offense looks great and the running game has resurged now that the OL and TE rooms have been revamped.
Despite struggling against a 6'6 235lb WR, the defense has shown the capacity to be elite
Am I 100% happy with the results? No.
Do I think he's done a bad job? Absolutely not.
It could be better, but it could be so much worse. We could've been UF post Meyer. Auburn chasing their tails after Chizik, Malzahn, Harsin, Freeze, etc...

I wanted Kiffin and was disappointed when it was DeBoer. Knew Kiffin had a snowball's chance of getting the job, and truthfully, it would have been a horrible fit from a culture standpoint. DeBoer was probably the most logical hire in hindsight. We were never getting Kirby, and he is really the only other coach I would want. It's a new age... money rules supreme. Fiery coaches can only do so much without pissing a kid off and having them go elsewhere. We had a magical run for many years, but those days are gone forever. If we win another National Championship (at some point), we better savor it, because the days of us being a perennial top 5 team are done. We simply don't have the funds to compete at that level.

People forget the timing with Cignetti. Even if he was the best choice, he was hired at Indiana before Saban resigned.

I like DeBoer, though I wonder if he feels in over his head sometimes. I know that anyone taking the helm after Saban would probably be that way, to be entirely fair.
I never wanted Kiffin and was relieved he was never considered, and I think any self-respecting Bama fan knows how that would have been a horrible choice. That dude is too turbulent and unpredictable and overall would be dangerous in an authority role at a program like Alabama. He’s someone that would be better off on staff and not a head coach, for his own good. He kinda fits at LSU in some ways, but I genuinely do not think the powers that be that hired him there truly thought it through longterm or had the down low on what a liability he is, they only saw him doing well at OM and him as a hot commodity. I don’t see him being a longterm coach anywhere, though.

To be honest I wouldn't have minded if Lane came here. It would have been exciting, but likely would have ended like a train-wreck. The statistical fact is that DeBoer has had much better outcomes as a coach than Kiffen.

DeBoer: 20-6
Lane: 13-26
Kiffen has the same career win percentage against top 25 teams as Houston Nutt

One of the strangest stats about DeBoer is that he has the highest all-time coaching win percentage as an underdog (67%)
Statistically, DeBoer is tracking to have a career that's in line with Bobby Bowden. Similar win percentages against all opponents (DeBoer is higher), top 25 and top 10. That is far from bad.
Fans feelings about his personality aside. There just isn't anyone out there other than Kirby or Cignetti that are getting better outcomes for their programs.

Yes! I think Bama is one of the top programs for evaluating talent.
They need to keep looking at players that got much better after HS.
It's always been hard to predict how well an OL will do in the SEC.

He was the most qualified hire that was available. So, I'm not sure what anyone would think Byrne would have done otherwise. He hired the best guy that was actually available.

He’s been better in areas that I was concerned about when he was hired (recruiting and defense in particular) and much worse on offense. We lacked team toughness in 24 and 25, but seem to be turning the corner there.
I definitely did not want Kiffin, Lanning, or Cristobal (at the time; although Mario took a big step forward in 2025). It was going to be difficult for anyone to follow CNS except maybe Kirby Smart or Demeco Ryans.
