Like him or not, DeBoer was the best pick and it's not really close.

I wanted DeBoer. It is hard to argue against the evidence. The guy has won big everywhere he’s been. He will win big for us too.

I didn't want him... but I will do my best to support him. And before anyone asks, I didn't want Kiffin either
I was like a woman when you are trying to decide where to eat out. "No... I don't want to eat... (anywhere you pick)"

Pastor, that is EXACTLY how it is with my wife when it comes to eating out. LOL. I'm not terribly picky and I can almost anywhere but it's REALLY hard to get the Mrs to agree on a place.
I wanted CKD. I think some of our fan base wanted Nick 2.0 but fact is, there is NO ONE who is Nick 2.0. There are some pretty good coaches out there but IMO, CKD was "the best available".
Some people want him fired but honestly, if we're being REALISTIC, there's no one better who would come. Kirby, Sark, Lanning, Mario Cristobol, none of those guys are coming. EVER. And I'm not so sure anymore that Lanning and Cristobol are all that great. IMO, without insane NIL, they would be pretty pedestrian.

Whew. Good to be around these parts.
Anyway. I do like him, and I agree. I initially wanted Lane Kiffin, and who knows. By the the time early November rolls around, I might be back to that. But reflecting on the whole process. It's obvious now he was the best of all the possibilities.
This is his team now. There's a few Saban stragglers, but this team now belongs to him. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's improving.

SO - Who'd you want? Dabo? He's also religious.

The downside to Kiffin is not worth the risk.
He is of low character and fits in well in the toxic waste dump of Baton Rouge.

What makes you think Deboer isn't religious? Seems like a high character guy... I wanted someone more like Saban who would ream players out and was a strong authoritarian. But I have been told by most here that "that doesn't work anymore." I really had no idea who I wanted - just someone hard-nosed

I mean the bottom line is that he wasn't a bad hire. It's really just a question of whether he's a Mark Richt nice guy or more of a Pete Carroll nice guy.

Completely agree that he was the best option available at the time, especially given the timing of Sabans retirement, which was well after the general coaching change cycle had concluded. I still don’t think he is an ideal fit for Alabama though. I’d take him any day over Kiffin, who may have some short term success but will almost certainly leave a disaster to clean up.

CKD was the best possible hire.
There is no Saban 2.0
I'd like to see more fire and arse chewing...but that's just theatrics...IF you're winning lol.

I agree, I'd like to see some arse chewing but we don't know what happens in the locker room or on the sidelines what all is said. However, that doesn't seem to be his style. Frankly, as long as we're winning it's not all that important.
I think we're all accustomed to Nick ripping some player a new rectum or him completely losing his shite on the sideline when a player messed up in a boneheaded penalty. It's just not CKD's style. Again, as long as we're winning, it doesn't matter.

I did not like to hear him say he watched the players go around and pep talk players last week at halftime. Maybe he said some stuff too and doesn't want to focus on himself. It was obvious the staff made adjustments and came out the third quarter better than they have since he has been here. Hope it continues.

I mean, the players did that schtick under Saban too. Yeldon did that after Ole Miss in 2014. Jonathon Allen did it another year
It’s not abnormal to have your captains go around and get people going

I'd say it's a job well done by a coaching staff if your leaders are leading.
Very few players show up as natural leaders, it's a skill that can be honed with coaching and the opportunities afforded to them.
Seeing it enacted with autonomy is what teaching is about...
