1. Mac Jones
2. Tua
3. AJ McChestTat
4. Coker
5. Sims
6. Hurts
7. McElroy
8. JPW
9. All the other Schmucks who started a game or 2

only reason i put Sims ahead of Hurts was becasue sims could complete a deep pass while he was here and still run. I realize hurts developed some as a a passer after he left.

It's pretty wild that we've really only had Mac have to step in any start for an injured player before.

Jalen had to come in for Tua in the 2018 SECCG, but obviously that was unique in that Jalen was a 2 year starter. Other than that, Mac having to start for Tua in 2019 is the only time we've had to start a backup QB in Saban's entire time here isn't it (depending on how Bateman vs Ole Miss is classified - injury/sickness or coach decision).

Mac Jones (2019-2020)

Tua Tagovailoa (2018-2019)

AJ McCarron (2011-2013)

Jalen Hurts (2016-2017)

Jacob Coker (2015)

Blake Sims (2014)

Greg McElroy (2009-2010)

John Parker Wilson (2007-2008)

I'd probably mix this around in the middle a bit relative to Hurts through Sims, but this is generally the correct response. Tua being above Mac is also reasonable.

Obviously not a start, but AJ coming in for Greg towards the end of the Cam-back. Pretty sure we dropped like 3 of his passes in a row

I really think when Mac is the best and it’s not close. And hot take but I believe Blake Sims is the 2nd. They’re both 1 years but I think the talent shines the most.

I also think Mac Jones will have the best pro career of any Bama QB.

if you want to know where the boos are coming from, it is because you are incredibly ignorant about Jones. he had a 1/4 of the 1st round receivers that Tua did for 78% of his season, but his numbers are above and beyond Tua. smith's last season was incredible, but one receiver will never outweigh 4 about equally talented receivers. especially Waddle when he was at his best like the 2019 Iron bowl. pro football focus has no bias, yet they rank Jones along with Burrow as the greatest passing seasons they have seen. Burrow was never shite on for throwing over 60% of his passes to two 1st round receivers, yet Smith gets all the credit for Jones' season. it is annoying and ignorant at best.

Mac is better than Tua. Some people don’t want to hear it, but it’s true.

Could you explain how it's reasonable ?

Mac Jones was the best QB we ever had. Took care of the ball, very accurate plus he could make all the reads and was durable. People keep talking about the talent Tua had, but Jones’ abilities and “football IQ” served us way better and was more valuable.

After Jones, it’d probably be Tua then AJ. After that, it doesn’t matter - you can rank them how you wish.

Agreed, it’s not close.

Tua didn’t have the ability to read defenses like nor did he have the durability of Mac. Also, could we say Jones was just as accurate of a passer if not more?

On the topic of the offenses (2019 vs 2020), I still think our 2020 offense was much better than 2019 despite the differences in the starting four at WR.

A healthy Tua is the best UA qb in my lifetime. Unfortunately, we got to see a healthy Tua only his first year and part of his 2nd year. So assuming they're all healthy, playing at their best, the same team around them and I could pick one for the season, I'd go

Tua
McCarron
Jones
McElroy
Hurts
Coker
Sims
JPW
Barnett
Bateman

This is exactly why I had AJ ranked ahead of Tua. These intangibles served Bama much better than Tuas "arm talent."

Uhhhh, yeah, the actual statistics show that Jones was more accurate, and more importantly he accumulated his stats stretching the field while Tua padded his stats with an extreme amount of RPO passes under ten yards and jet sweep "passes."

Wow,... did you watch last season ? Tua feasted on the pitiful teams. Mac played a SEC only schedule went undefeated and shattered all the single season records that matter. I have no idea how someone can reasonably rank Tua ahead of Mac. Entitled to your opinion I suppose though.

Well, durability is important for a football player. It does enter into the equation. Have to be on the field to help the team.

So assuming they're all healthy

We dont have to assume anything; both of their careers at UA are in the rearview mirror. Tua was made of glass; Mac took some big shots and kept on producing.

quote:

playing at their best, the same team around them and I could pick one for the season

Again, wow, they did basically play for the same level talented teams... Mac took the offense to a new level because he could read defenses pre and post snap, and he had NFL level anticipation and accuracy. He took his team to an undefeated season playing an all sec schedule.

Tua got preyed upon by similarly talented teams with a DC able to scheme plays to bait Tua into throwing the ball to the wrong place. He then had a large role in helping get our brains beat in by Clemson.

Tua
McCarron
Jones

I assume youre trolling.

Needlessly tearing down a former player who brought us back from the dead to win a national championship because reasons. Never change trailer trash Gumps.

yeah. Seems kind of weird trashing an ex player on what I assumed was an innocuous offseason topic.

Woah,... check out my avatar and sig there Captain Kneejerk.

I was and always will be a Tua fan, and nobody is tearing him down. Trying to say he was a better QB than Mac however after weighing their performance at UA side by side is silly.

Also, I'd relax on the trailer trash mud slinging; it comes across a little... trailer trashy.
