Disagree on 2014. Freshman Jalen and senior Blake's production under Kiffin was about the same. ~3800 total yards and ~35 TDs. They just accomplished it in different ways. Kiffin adapts his playcalling to what his guys do well better than any coach in the country. Daboll's unwillingness or inability to do so was a big reason why Jalen took such a huge step back as a sophomore.

That's probably true - there are a lot of similarities between Blake in 2014 and Jalen in 2016. I think Blake could make plays with his arm a little more (I also think he took more chances/made more bad decisions). So, in the end, probably washes out.

Not really sure about 2008 either. We leaned hard on the run game and underneath passing when McElwain was the OC. It wasn't a QB friendly scheme, but it could also mask a lot of deficiencies at that position. I do think JPW and McElroy were the right kind of QBs for that system though, because they knew their limitations and never really tried to do too much.

Yea I don't think Jalen would have faired very well there. John Parker and Greg weren't great at all but they both got pretty good at touch on dump passes, stops, outs, etc - and they knew where the ball was supposed to go because they'd been around a while. I don't think early Jalen mentally would have been able to execute that whole thing (not sure young Greg or JPW would have either, and we kind of saw that with JPW in 2006).

I guess you rank players based on their recruiting ranking rather than what you see on the field.

I apologize for the earlier post being mean, that was unnecessary.

But no, I'm ranking based off the quality of the starting QB. Mac had one great year. Tua had two great years (albeit both hampered by injuries), but still won us a title his Fr. year. I understand having Mac 1st, but there is a reason Tua started above him all those years and was in the running to be taken #1 overall until he got hurt and Joe Burrow had an otherwordly year. Also put them 1a, 1b for a reason, because I do believe it is close.

Breaking News: no one can have their own opinions anymore.

I don’t care what you think. Hurts couldn’t throw a football, and made elite WRs stand there and watch him snap the ball, stand there for 2 seconds, give up on the play, and run right 98% of the time.

I apologize, there was no need to be mean. You are definitely free to have that opinion.

Still, I think there's a reason Hurts is an NFL QB and 2nd round draft pick. He definitely had his deficiencies, but I believe people always remember the bad and forget the good.

I brought ol' Marc Guillon up in a thread the other day.

We've been bringing up some oldies lately.

Not gonna make a list. Just gonna State that Jake Coker will always be my favorite qb of the Saban era

I honestly think 2014 would be another championship year if Coker had been the guy instead of Blake Sims.

I'm not convinced he was ready in 2014.

Well Saban apparently wasn't convinced Coker was ready in 2015 either. He was wrong on both counts.

In 2014 Coker looked great in the spring game, and dominated every time he came into the game. In the Iron Bowl, Jake Coker was inches away from going in. In retrospect, 2014 would've been a better year had Blake Sims tossed up another pick in the Iron Bowl, and Jake Coker carries us the rest of the season. Coker had the heart of a Lion.

He started the Wisconsin and MTSU games to start the season. They just weren't sold on him (specifically, Kiffin wasn't sold on him). And he really didn't hit his stride as a QB until the 2nd half of the season. But he sure as hell did that.

If Blake Sims had been pulled at halftime vs. OSU a la Jalen Hurts, we go on to win the natty.

If Lane doesn't outthink himself we probably win that game, Blake or no Blake. Yeldon and Henry ran for 6.2 YPA and Lane just couldn't stay away from doing dumb shite the entire 3rd and early 4th when we kept getting the ball at midfield (and I love Lane, he's great, but that was one of those immature Lane games).

It's hard to be an OC in the playoffs when your QB can't throw the ball, as we saw with Sims AND Hurts

Blake could throw the ball, he just couldn't make decisions when something broke down or his first route was covered very easily. He certainly struggled down the stretch. Lane squeezed everything he could out of him but as the season progressed teams figured out how to confuse Blake and Lane didn't really change course. He learned from it in 2015, though.

Jalen couldn't make the decision or the throw his first year. Not his fault, he was 19, but yea it makes it really damn hard to win with your hand tied behind your back like that.

Blake Sims was hot or cold. When he was cold, he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He was honestly a terrible QB. I don't get the warm memories of Blake Sims. I genuinely hated our offense that season. I mean maybe people liked him in TV interviews, or whatever, but on the field Sims was shaky and unreliable.

He stuck around, played his arse off at about 4 different positions over 3-4 years without any real playing time, finally got his shot and had a great run that ended in winning a SEC Title. He's not the best QB, but he's as great an example of a kid I want at Alabama as a competitor and somebody committed to doing whatever it takes as exists.

I didn't like our offense very much that season, either. Lane called some great games, but in general the sideways running game stuff was pretty hard to watch. Was glad to see Lane tinker with it the next season.

You sure are going out of your way to attempt to have a civil conversation with one of the two shittiest posters on the board.

I'll always love Blake Sims if just for that game tying drive at LSU in the closing minutes.
