Lane may have ended Dabo’s tenure

At Clemson. There are credible rumblings out of South Carolina last night and today that the program is still backsliding and they’ve seen enough. Dabo has a $57 million buyout today that actually increases to $60 million at season end due to some contract oddity. The rumor is he will be fired today or tomorrow and an interim named.

I'd agree that the hot seat is now undeniably real with his nationally dominant era now older that most recruits memory.
2 national titles and 9 Conference rings bought him 1 unranked, barely .500 season..... can he survive a second?
Off-Topic: I used to wonder, what if Nick Saban had he had more a Bowden/Paterno mentality and was determined to only leave the job in a coffin. After SIX national titles, how many poor seasons would Alabama fans tolerate? Would the board have had the courage to step in, or had Nick Saban earned the right to leave Alabama in the shape he found it?

I don't think any coach has the right to destroy the program. It's not like any of them ever did it alone.

He'll be out in a few weeks is my prediction.
But I wouldn't be surprised if he is out a lot sooner than that.

In the landscape of college football today it wouldn’t be a surprise if Clemson terminated Dabo, but it also would be a bad look to fire the most successful head coach in the program’s history this quick in the season.
He’s been there over 20yrs and the HC for the biggest part of that and that’s a lifetime for a HC over top 5 program over the last 20yrs. 2015-20 maybe top 2 and the last 5yrs has slipped into what we see today
Dabo’s has done very well for himself at Clemson won a lot of conference titles and 2 natty’s, pretty damn good for a dirt floor poor homeless kid from Alabama that didn’t have a pot to piss in, but all good things come to a end and there no doubt this will be his last yr at Clemson. I hope he leaves with some class and dignity.

Same as I would give any benefit to a human being but I wouldn't be surprised at the Clemson admin if they let him go quickly. Hope I'm wrong.

Look we all knew Lane was a good coach but what we saw last night and the same thing if he was at Alabama is we still would not be that good because Alabama either can not or will not drop 45-50 million on a roster. Clemson either cannot or will not drop that much money on a roster. LSU simply bought better players than what Clemson has. They may have bought better players than Alabama has. Until or unless Alabama can spend the same on rosters this will be what it is 9-10 win seasons and playoff appearances likely getting knocked out in semifinals because that will be the teams usually with the most expensive rosters. Fans are going to have to accept it or find a different hobby.

Facts are facts and Dabo couldn’t do a damn thing different last night to even be more competitive. Georgia and Alabama have the same approach to rosters and let’s look at their results. Three playoff appearances and first round exits. Kirby hid a great coach but if you don’t have the money to compete then it is what it is.

I guarantee you we spend very similarly to LSU.
You also have to understand that getting a HC like Lane Kiffin can make boosters open their wallets more.
The reason why Kiffin was able to build a buzzsaw of a team in year 1 is simple: He's willing to do whatever it takes to win. He didn't walk in the building with the Mr. nice guy routine and try to show loyalty to the guys already on the roster. He hit the portal and ruthlessly upgraded at every position. He went out and got a Heisman-caliber QB.
He decided he didn't want to waste 2 seasons on "building a roster". Why would he? Why would anyone in 2026?
He and Cignetti are showing the blueprint. And the most important thing they both do is they get their QBs from the portal - proven QBs.
The coaches who want to do things the old way, or the "right" way are going to get their asses kicked just like Dabo, by guys who are going to utilize everything to their advantage when it comes to roster building.
The fact DeBoer came to Tuscaloosa with a meek approach, and wasted year 1 with Milroe - that's on him. That was totally stupid. Milroe didn't fit his offense at all, and he wasted a whole season just to be nice.
When it comes to football, all will be forgiven if you win games, and nothing will if you lose games. Simple as that.

Apologies if this has been explained elsewhere but where are these 50M roster numbers coming from? Revenue share is capped at 20m and the House Settlement was supposed to make sure that NIL deals are legitimate fair market value business deals with third parties by running everything through a clearinghouse. I get that in the early days schools and collectives were doing whatever they want with no rules but now I don’t think any athletic department can spend more than 20M?
