ESPN still tries to gaslight us into thinking people give a shite about women’s basketball

I’ve definitely noticed a huge effort to promote women’s sports, not just at ESPN but also at the schools. Like most woke DEI initiatives, it didn’t work and cost a ton of money.

Nevermind it was remnants of the 2023 roster that struggled to beat South Florida

Tyler Buchner started a game as QB in 2023. The talent on the roster had clearly declined.
All year they dream of winning an occasional fluke against Bama aided by the refs and it must be frustrating when it doesn’t happen.
I know that at the graduate level there has been pushback from faculty who think online programs aren’t prestigious or lessen the value of a degree. Not saying they are right or wrong, but it is something I know firsthand.
He’s a likable guy so if the NFL doesn’t work out he can probably go into coaching or media here in Alabama and would have blown that if he transferred. In terms of his actual accomplishments, I’d say he’s similar to JPW (helped transition eras and an SECCG appearance).
Yes, this is a good comparison. There are a lot of fans who don’t want to admit it isn’t a good fit and will keep defending him for another year or so.

Is Austin representative of how people are in most of TX?

Yes, most of the big metro areas are filled with liberal yankees now.

This is a terrible hire I don’t know one person who is excited about Klemm. It’s becoming clear that DeBoer is Shula 2.0.

Bama fans seem to be giving him a free pass on that and I would like them to speak to that directly.

I’m surprised so many Bama fans have given him a pass. I think nobody wants to admit the athletic department made a huge mistake with the hire and the long term contract.

Yes. It was an idiotic decision and there is a reason you almost never see a team go for it down 3-0 in their own end at any level of the sport. Worst case scenario is we pin them deep and make them earn a 10-0 lead rather than gifting it to them. Playing from a massive hole early on affected the play calling and overall strategy.

So are Lannings teams soft?

Yes, his teams are soft and I think we should be a better program than Oregon. We are Alabama, with 18 championships and a history of coaches like Wade, Bryant, Thomas and Saban. They have 0 championships and have been trying to buy one for a decade and a half or so. We should be better than Oregon and the excuse of “Oregon got blown out too” isn’t good enough for me at least. I think it’s reasonable to expect our team to show up and be competitive in important games and to win games like Florida State, Vanderbilt and Michigan.
I hope DeBoer turns out to be a great hire, but the combination of the following is where he lost me:

1. Showed up with no plan and no energy for three games straight to end the year. Yes, it was against good competition and yes, we beat OK but they gifted us points off turnovers and missed field goals their kicker hasn’t missed all year. All three games really looked similar. With so much on the line, that is inexcusable.
2. Ending with a weak portal class in a critical year. We have a lot of seniors leaving and our OL was terrible. What did they do? Focus on Hollywood Smothers and Cam Coleman rather than the trenches. If we had the money for those two, we had money for elite linemen, but it looks like we struck out, likely because we waited too long or had a poor strategy. Our roster does not look like an SEC championship competitor at the moment, at least on paper.

I’m not sure why this post got downvoted so much. I think it’s pretty clear DeBoer isn’t a good fit for the University of Alabama. His teams are soft and get blown out with absolutely no game plan far too often. I’m not sure why so many people are so quick to defend him. He’s a Shula clone and I’m not sure how anyone can say otherwise.

I wasn’t happy about an Auburn coach + someone not from Alabama representing the state but he has been very solid on the issues and has done exactly what his voters elected him to do.

They have a single donor. And they are throwing everything at the wall right now. The fans believe that funding is unlimited but that's simply untrue. If Kiffin doesn't produce that program will die quickly.

I think there are a few programs with one donor, who will eventually get bored or will lose interest if they can’t buy a championship quickly. Even the TX schools, how long will their donors keep throwing money around if they can’t buy a championship in the next year or so? It makes even less sense than the Dodgers or Yankees because at least those owners get a financial return. I have a feeling this whole thing may self-correct when donors lose interest.

They are paying more than the NFL right now

I had never even heard of the Cincinnati QB who supposedly is being paid 5M. For context, Milroe and Ewers are getting paid around 1M base salary in the NFL this year. I’m not sure what boosters are willing to pay this type of money when they could just invest in a pro sports team and at least then get some kind of return.

How long will the fans put up with this ? I see people on here constantly saying that DeBoer will get another year no matter what happens in 2026. But at this point we will probably have a losing record considering the losses to the portal and the lack of adding quality players through the portal.

As someone posted earlier, TidePride renewal emails went out and surprise, prices went up again. Why did prices go up? Has the fan experience gotten better? Have they improved the roster? Is there reason to be excited about the future of the program? Renewal begins Feb 1 I believe and if we don’t have a competitive roster by that time I’m not wasting my money.
I read that this guy had to sit out his entire senior year of high school for some undisclosed eligibility issue. Seems like a low character guy and it’s concerning if staff didn’t do their diligence. I don’t think RB or receiver are really our top positions of need honestly but if they committed funds for this guy without a firm commitment and had to overlook OL/DL then this staff made a mistake.

I think the difference is that you may be able to convince a guy to take a more team friendly deal if they are already on the roster.

Makes sense, there is a built in advantage to re-recruiting rather than just recruiting. I still think you need to focus on both and so far this portal has been a massive disappointment for two reasons: (1) we havent been able to re-recruit or retain a lot of players and (2) we havent been able to replace, let alone upgrade the departures
quote:

You're out of your mind if you think Alabama can compete at a high level without recruiting very well at the HS ranks because we will never be able to outspend those schools.

I guess my point was that there is no difference between HS recruiting and the portal. They are free agents after one year anyways and we have to spend to keep them.
This is the result of letting UTrans into the SEC - an uptick in liberal posters.
