Man do I hope Jimmy Stein is wrong on his OC/DC predictions beyond Pruitt. He essentially said he thinks if it’s not Pruitt, it’s Grantham. So frick that. And he said he is positive Saban will hire a former NFL HC, as OC. Also frick that.

Schumann or Pruitt or both.

Lebby OC

Please don’t give us Grantham and BOB 2.0

If Grantham becomes our DC, Saban has lost his edge and this incredible run is truly over.

Yeah if we hire Grantham every frick I have to give will be dedicated to basketball for a while. That would be Saban throwing in the towel on ever winning another championship because he's even worse than Golding. At least Pete occasionally stumbled into calling a good game. Can't say that much about Grantham.

I’m much more worried about this than most because Saban has had a lot of respect for Grantham going back decades.

He tried to get him the Michigan State HC job when they hired Dantonio and has pushed him for other jobs since.

I have no idea based on results what he sees in Grantham but it’s certainly a concern IMO.

If he hires Grantham as DC he is basically laying out an exit strategy .

Grantham don’t mind blitzing though

Grantham has put together some pretty salty defenses over the yrs. He got thrown under the bus at Florida by Mullen.

Florida was on a 3 game skid mainly because the offense was turning the ball over at high rate. Plus half the team had the flu when they lost to the gamecocks. Mullen basically blamed Grantham and fired him halfway through the season, but Mullen had a lot to do with it.

There’s a reason Saban respects him and brought him on the staff. He’s not the best DC, but I’ve seen him give teams fits.

A lot of interesting options there, but also some terrifying ones… like, frick Adam Gase, but I wouldn’t hate the idea of Freddie Kitchens calling plays. But seriously, not Gase.

I think Sean Peyton, Bruce Arians, and Gruden are available though

I don't think people worry about the physicality and ability of Grantham defenses but more so his playcalling, especially on 3rd down and his tendency to seemingly make emotional blitz calls when situations get stressful.

He wouldn’t be my 1st or 2nd choice right now, but he’s had some top 5&10 def in his career. I think he gets a bad rep sometimes, especially with Mullens

Hey you are better than me if you would be ok with hiring Grantham, even if he gets a bad rap. There may be worse hires but Bama should be able to get someone better. Going from Golding to Grantham does not feel like an upgrade.

I totally agree. Much rather have Pruitt or Schuman (how ever he spells it). Personally I think it’s Pruitt it’s just a timing process to when it’s official

But if it is Grantham by some wild outta the blue chance I’ll be behind him. I’m not going to turn my back on Bama just because Saban didn’t get a fan friendly hire. I’m a gump through the good and bad.

Pretty sure Kirby will do whatever it takes to keep Schuman, like making him the sole DC

Seems to be the rumor is that Muschamp is willing to step back from the co-DC position so that Schumann can take the sole DC title. If Muschamp does though I bet he gets an Asst. HC or similar title.

In the end all this speculation on who we may land and you can bet Saban already knew who he wanted before the bowl game and had his short list.

Some dude posted this on the Rant last night:

quote:

Believe it or not....Stephen M Smith claims that Saban is all in on Jeremy Pruitt. He said Bama has gotten through about 85% of the red tape of dealing with the NCAA. The one sticking point is supposedly about a clause that says Pruitt cannot coach until August 1st. So far he is the only person that claims to know what is taking so long. If Bama can work out that clause, Pruitt will be the next DC.

It’s Pruitt or bust for me… but my opinion means nothing
