Guy just can’t win with us. Take the blame calmly enough and we blame him for having no fire and not chewing enough butts. Chew a little butt about effort and play and we say he’s throwing people under the bus.

Some folks and some are saying it is true. My truth will be filled Saturday if we look different.

Even if it's not true, at the very least hopefully it means the problem is receiving attention.

You're only allowed a certain number of on-field coaches. Strong isn't currently one of them. Who is going to take a demotion and go off field in week 3? Also, as an analyst, he isn't allowed to coach during the games.

If Saban wants the plays called differently, HE could call the plays. At his presser yesterday he said the calls weren't the problem it was the execution. How would he then on the same day make a change with play caller?

This feels like wishful thinking by our fan base and squinting at the tea leaves to try to see what we want.

Why doesn't Saban just call the plays?

I just hope these people really hear themselves suggesting these ridiculous "cloak and dagger" staff changes that violate NCAA policies

...or the people who are back on their shtick again.

I asked that same question but got only a downvote and no reply.

I didn't have an agenda when I asked it and I think it's a good idea but honestly I don't expect it to happen because if Saban effectively became the D.C., including game prep and play calling, he would be directly responsible if the defense failed. I kind of agree with those posters that have suggested Saban's defense just doesn't work well vs the offenses these days. I would like to see rule changes back to that which gives a good defense a chance but that damn sure is not going to happen.

He isn’t going to be on the field it’s only ever been a play caller according to some.

What I can't grasp is why has Nick retained Pete for three years at any position. The mistake with Tosh only went downhill with Pete.

Everyone's a lawyer/code breaker when it comes to their Golding getting fired wishes/maintaining their schtick. "Ahh, interesting wording by credible sources A through Z there in their unanimous debunking of this rumor started by kind of random tweeter - notice they didn't rule out that we've developed a mind-control/telepathic instruction device by which Strong will call plays through Golding's body. Have sources confirming this."

I get it though . Watching Saturday's defense sucked unbelievably badly and I want Golding canned as much as anyone.

Chew all the butt you want, you just be damn sure you do it on the field and in skull sessions and not in the press. In fact, we have heard precious little about what is actually going wrong with our defense in the press.

Poor communication, misalignments, and poor fundamentals as a team is not a player problem. It has never been a player problem in the history of Alabama football. It is a coaching problem.

Some players as individuals will always do some of this stuff better or worse than others. But a sound, fundamental team, comes from sound, fundamental coaching. And vice versa.

We look like a swiss watch on offense. Alabama has the most efficient offense in the nation. We look like the polar opposite on the other side of the line. I'm not sure how much more dramatic there is a way of saying it. Great players do what they are taught to do.

Let’s be clear: Saban said it wasn’t the play calling, it was the execution. That is a true statement. But dig deeper. What Saban didn’t say, but there’s plenty of circumstantial evidence to back it up is the execution was bad because the players don’t know their responsibilities, don’t know what the frick to do. They are playing confused, overthinking and therefore not playing fast, not playing well, and not tackling well. We howled last year that the LB’s were a step slow and didn’t know what to do and we blamed it on them being freshmen, not ready to play. Well this year, the LB’s are experienced and still are a step slow and still don’t know what to do. And our youthful secondary is lost. Pete Golding can’t coach/teach. He may know the scheme like a savant but he can’t convey it to the players. And he’s too stupid to simplify it down to something the players can grasp and run with. There’s enough talent over there that if you just give them base responsibility and turn them loose, we’ll be ok. They will make some plays. But right now, they are confused, frustrated, and unsure and playing with no confidence in what they are doing and it shows in the results.

Golding has got to be demoted down to an analyst and let Saban and Strong simplify the defense down to something the guys can grasp with a rock solid knowledge and let them play. If we get burned because we’re in the wrong call, so be it, but don’t get burned because they are going at half speed because they don’t know what the frick they are supposed to do.

You raise great points Phil.

What is confusing to me is that with Saban being the detail-freak that by all indications knows precisely what good, sound, disciplined defensive coaching looks like, how can he possibly be so wrong and have such oversight about the responsibility he has given Golding?

I really am hopeful that lane just had a great game plan vs Alabama and we kinda got caught on our worst game of the year on defense. If not this weekend will be tough to watch because Georgia is going to try and big boy us I think.

The calls aren't the problem, the coaching is. This guys are lost and aren't being coached well at all.
