Take it FWIW but a former player at Bama is saying Saban did make Strong the play caller today and promoted him.

he is not an assitant coach so therefore I dont think he can do this. someone would have to be demoted and then CS promoted. Analysist etc cant be part of play calling etc.

Lets see on one side you have Charlie Strong a seasoned, veteran, established defensive mind that has climbed as far as HC of a blue blood program, and is universally respected around the college football world-
and on the other side theres that guy that nobody outside of Alabama knows his name, that last coached at tumbleweed U, and since his arrival the defense has gotten worse and worse until now it has reached historically bad
Hmmmmmmm

It can’t happen. Analysts aren’t allowed any direct involvement. Some heads have to roll, or major staff movement has to happen. Some internet rumor made for clicks and views and all the sudden somebody heard the t from a player.
There are contracts involved that would have to be resolved before this could happen. I can’t happen secretly.

Contracts can be handled later. Bama doesn't have to notify anyone "outside" about on-field staff changes except the NCAA. Maybe it's as simple as Golding being demoted to off-field staff and Strong promoted to DC.

UofA has 3 DB coaches (Kelly/Scott/Saban) and no true MLB coach on the active 10 man staff.
The current DC (Golding) has no real MLB experience and might do better as a secondary assistant under the lead secondary coach.
The current CB coach (Scott) and the grad assistant CB coach (Saban) could be adjusted so the current head coach take the lead and the demoted DC (Golding) becomes the grad assistant's assistant.
That opens up a spot for Strong to take over play calling from the booth with the former CB (Scott) coach to become an annalist without anyone seeing he no longer has the headset.
Golding stays on the field to relay Strong's calls. At the end of the season (or playoff time) Scott moves back on the field and Golding gets a new "great opportunity" elsewhere????
No announcement need be made and the press is not allowed at practice so unless someone on the inside spills the beans, there is no proof of any of it happening??

We need Kelley with the safeties more than we need Scott with the CB's
All the rest is shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic while hoping the public does not notice the firing or demoting of the Alabama DC (public proof).

I detest Saban saying it's not the calling, but players not executing. Stop blaming the players and start blaming the coaches. The players aren't prepared. The fundamentals aren't there. The will to play isn't there. That's on coaching. A change in coaching needs to be made asap.

Or its Charles Kelly. Drop him into analyst role and promote Strong. Win win situation.

I took that as him saying the coaches didn't prepare the players well (although he didn't explicitly put it that way). If I'm right, he's still placing the blame on the coaches, but is saying that it's how the coaches coach in practice/preparation that's the issue, as opposed to the gameday playcalling.

Good one Cowboy....that pretty much describes Bama defense at this point.

Ultimately like any good leader he took the blame for the entire thing. Ike took responsibility for the possibility of a failed Operation Overlord even before it happened in a letter to the President.
However, what Twisted said is definitely a possibility. There are plenty of ways to make this happen and not draw a ton of attention. Saban has done this before and he likes peaceful departures when “great opportunities “ present themselves.

I'm not sure what's going on over in Tuscaloosa these days with our staff but it hardly reeks of humility. There's enough cryptic-speak coming from coach Saban to write his own mystery novel.
I can still hear coach Bryant in situations of peril and even loss. It's my fault, I didn't get them ready, we let the kids down. Our coaches did a poor job and tomorrow we are going to get it fixed. You simply never, never, never, never, throw your players under the bus. All they know is what they've been taught, or not.
One leaves no doubt where the buck stops, the other might as well be selling no-fault insurance.

is there a possibility that Saban might become more active in preparing the defense and calling plays on game day?
There are a good few head coaches call their own offensive plays. I don't know why a defensive coach couldn't do it.

True.....in almost all the cases the coach leaving Bama has his PC at his new school before Nick makes a statement.
