Ryans already has a couple of NFL HC interviews set up after the playoffs. He ain't coming to Bama as DC - maybe HC after Saban. With his ability to coach D, I think he is an attractive candidate

Yea. He has several formal interview requests. He'll be an NFL head coach very soon, I believe. Would love to have him here but he's building his NFL brand for now.

Demeco Ryans is apt to be a successful head coach if he picks a spot with a decent QB and good defensive talent

As a 49ers fan I dont know how i feel about Ryans. Is he the product of great players or is it his play calling? Obviously i would love to have him back just seems like NFL guys want to be there and not college.

This is a pretty bad post.

Like we don't have examples of coordinators with the best talent making them look average.

How does he compare to Jets coach? At least he works for an offensive guy. It's hard to tell how good a dc is under someone like Belicheck.

I think it is a both DeMeco is a strong playcaller and he has great talent. I also don't think your example really matters in what he is saying. I think you are right that bad coaches can make great talent look mediocre, but I also think great talent can also make coaches look better than they are (although I am not saying that is what is happening with DeMeco).

As a 49ers fan, it is not unreasonable to ask the question as the previous D coordinator really helped build this D and is now the Jets head coach based on what the 49ers D accomplished from 2017-2020. DeMeco took over a strong unit with an established structure. Having Nick Bosa and Fred Warner makes life a lot easier on a DC. I don't believe he is anyway solely responsible, but I personally credit Ryan in being a great asset to Warner so that he could become an elite linebacker. With that being said I think DeMeco has done a lot considering injuries along the Dline and a solid although not very heralded secondary.

With all that being said I hate to lose him as a 49ers fan and wish him much success as an HC unless he goes to the Cardinals or the Rams, then he is dead to me .

I know people want him at Bama and that ain't happening cause he will be an NFL HC, however you never know how guys who are primarily NFL will take to recruiting and the grind of college football. It is definitely possible but there is always risk with those NFL to College hires. Love to have him but I do think it would be far from a slam dunk.

Just reading the tea leaves, it seems to me Jim Leonard might be our new DC. Very little "noise" about him since he announced he's not staying at Wisconsin. And it's a great move/fit for him and Bama.

Leonard or Schumann have to be runaway favorites right now.

Kevin Steele and Jimmy Lake are probably next on the list at like +3000 odds.

Just because NFL teams want him an an head coach doesnt mean he is a good head coach. He has had a great defense since he has been coordinator. Bosa, Armstead, Greenlaw, and Warner helps.

I saw something the other day that the 49ers have had the most players put on IR in the past 5 years. Including most of the guys you just listed. Yet the 49ers defense has been towards the top in the NFL every year. You can have doubts but doubting Demeco is a good DC is just moronic at this point. He may suck as a head coach but as a DC he’s lights out and most analysis say as much when they are calling 49er games and talking about the defensive scheme.

We just had an OC that didn’t recruit off campus and he couldn’t coach for shite either.

I’ll take Demeco at DC without recruiting if that’s what it takes. But yeah, prob better if it’s a wink/nod hciw

I agree, and maybe hire Pruitt back too, initially as a defensive analyst.

Whoever the coordinator is, will be expected to run a 3-3-5 as the base

Saban runs a 3-4-4 base. Where are you hearing this? He does run a lot of nickle and dime though.

Could you imagine Leonard/Schumann as DC/ILB, Lake as Safeties coach, and Pruitt as analyst?

I think Saban would be ecstatic, especially since he's been chasing Lake forever

We're in a 3-3-5 (nickel) more than we're in a 3-4-4.
