re: Bama Football Tidings
sounds like they can set up an o line for whatever the situation calls for. need roadgrader run heavy, got it. need better pass protection, got it. need a good mixture of both, got it. this would be great. althougth, saban likes one group, only. the best starting 5. one thing i always look for at seasons start is, have we bulked up our olinemen to much. to big and to slow gets beat regularly.

tidalsurge1, i spend a lot of time in here reading and rereading this stuff. i cant imagine the time it takes to gather it all up, reword a lot of it and post it. thank you sir and a tip-o-the-hat to ya!

re: Bama Football Tidings
I'll post the BOL stuff (articles, videos, podcasts, etc.). Hopefully others will contribute by posting stuff from other sites too.

ETA: I'm hoping RollTide66 can take over this thread. He did a great job on the Spring Camp thread. The FB recruiting thread is already a ton of work for me.

re: Bama Football Tidings
I'll be 100% honest here - my biggest concern for 2019 is Pete Golding. I know he's a great football mind, I know Saban loves him and I'm sure he'll have a very bright future. But last year was an utter disaster at his position and general adjustments and play calling on that side of the ball (which we've sense learned his did most of, especially late). We need for him to have matured and gotten a lot better in year 2.

I know it was popular to hate on the Sark hire, but I have zero concerns there. He'll be very solid.

Yeah, biggest concerns for me are 1) Golding, 2) the likely fact that a major ILB talent upgrade didn't walk through the door this off-season, so, even if you thought our ILB issues were primarily talent-based, I'm not sure we have a fix, and 3) Flood, but he's more of a disappointment than a concern, really - we've won with OL coaches who can't really get the most out of our talent, and I'm guessing he'll be more of that.

Agree re: #2. We keep bitching about Mack Wilson, and with good reason, but I'm not sure how you can feel like we are going to upgrade there. Moses should be a year better, so that is an upgrade, but Mack's replacement is either going to be a well trained but less talented upperclassman (McMillon) or a very talented but raw and learning freshman (Lee).

Also agree re: #3. I guess I'm a little more wait and see, as some people seem to think he was a solid OL guy when that was all he did, but I can't seem to find much that backs that up.

re: Bama Football Tidings
My only real concern about this team is depth at LB (both inside and outside.) We really need to stay healthy there and have some of the young guys like Lee, Kaho, Allen, etc come along.

I'm pumped about our coaching staff and their level of experience. The most interesting thing about fall camp to me will be to see how the OL shakes out. So many talented options for only 5 spots. It's a good problem to have. I'm also looking forward to seeing if our new PK can be a solid and dependable option there.

re: Bama Football Tidings
I've said this in other threads, but I really would like to see Lee and/or Christian Harris (even though he will probably extremely raw) rotate in for McMillon early and fairly often. The offense will be good enough to mitigate any mistakes that these guys will make early on. Having these guys get quality experience early will pay huge dividends later on. Obviously you give McMillon a chance to show what he can do, but IMO it would be very beneficial to rotate often and let the young guys go through their growing pains.

As for OLB, losing Anoma sucks, but I think Chris Allen is going to turn some heads this year. The kid is a freak and I think would have played significant snaps last year prior to his injury. We'll see how he rebounds from that injury, but physically, the kid is a freak.

Regarding Golding, like y'all said, he has to get better from last year. I'm optimistic. I think overall the defense as a whole should be improved from last year. Moses needs to have a huge year. He's got the tools, we'll see if he's developed the instincts and mentality that our other great backers had.

I think the negativity towards Golding last year is over done. He may have taken over play calling later in the year but that couldn’t have been easy.

Secondary Wise.... I think we are gonna be solid. Especially if we do Diggs like Eddie Jackson and move him to safety. Also really excited to see what Josh Jobe can do

I agree if Golding can’t get it done Nick needs to take the DC headset over and start calling it himself. Pruitt was fantastic at adjusting on the fly once the scripted plays were over. Which is something I wasn’t always happy with even under Kirby.

I wouldn't even call it negativity (at least on my end). But there is absolutely an unknown there, and the early results were not great. I think it's understandable why they weren't, but anytime there is zero evidence a guy will be very good (especially at a place like Alabama where that is the expectation) there is cause for pause. Saban loves the guy, which makes me think he will figure it out, but he's young and inexperienced and like young and inexperienced players he's going to have some hiccups

I'm very excited about the secondary. If they figure out the FS spot it could be as good and deep a group as we've had in a long time.

re: Bama Football Tidings
i'm curious if goldings issues last season were his knowledge of defense as a whole or just his first time coaching ilb's. he has a year of coaching the ilb's now. that has to help communications.

terrell lewis, as talented as he may be, the only question is, can he get thru the whole season. i sure am pulling for the young man.

Yeah, I'd be all for getting these guys in games as soon as they can even sort of handle it. And I should've said there likely wasn't an immediate upgrade at ILB coming in, because these two really do have a lot of potential and may eventually be better than what we had last year. I just think both will need a lot of seasoning before that can be the case.

Shane Lee has a high FB IQ, along with excellent vision and instincts. Christian Harris has those traits as well, and he is a freak athlete. Lee did very well in spring camp.

ETA: Harris (CB in HS) played ILB for the 1st time in an all-star game in Jan and did a great job.

I'm really looking forward to seeing those 2 get a lot of snaps. We almost always identify 1 or 2 LBs and play them - considering the situation I got to think that happens with Lee at ILB this year. Especially with the likelihood Moses goes to the NFL next year and we need someone to slide in as the alpha.

re: Bama Football Tidings
We really need 42 and 10 to make progress as well. And what the heck is going on with Benton? Is he in the Ben Davis camp of lost backers who will never really play? I know Saban sort of called out his work ethic at one point which should have been a wake up call.
