Now that Mack looks like he's going to be more significant sooner than expected, let's look at his high school situation and how he did

He played at Folsom high School in Division 1 of the Sierra Foothill League of the San Joaquin Section of California high school football. SFL is one of the toughest high school football leagues in California.

Mack only had one season as the starter because he reclassified after his junior season

His junior season stats were excellent

2022: As a first-year starter, completed 269 of 382 pass attempts (70.4 percent) for 3,498 yards with 40 TD and 5 INT. Also rushed for 99 yards and 2 TD. Led Folsom to a 12-2 record and a San Joaquin Section D1 Championship in California

Sayin had 3 full seasons as starter at Carlsbad, also excellent stats. Carlsbad is in the Avocado League of the San Diego section.

2021
Pass
181/253 71.5% 2,769 yds 34 tds 5 ints
Rush
35 att 208 yds 2 tds
11 win 1 loss
2022
Pass
163/245 66.5% 2,708 yds 27 tds 4
Rush
26 att 154 yds 3 tds
10 win 2 loss
2023
Pass
160/212 75.5% 2,369 yds 24 tds 1 int
Rush
29 att 186 yds 4 tds
9 win 1 loss

Macks season as a starter is comparable to or better than any season Sayin put up, in an overall harder league of California high school football. Mack would have been a top recruit if he had played his senior season.

Brock Huard is HUGE on this guy. He was saying on the round table while losing Sayin is a big deal...grabbing Mack is a big get, as well. Huard was talking about his intangibles and how everyone focuses on him when he steps into the room, etc.

It was an interesting take.

I have questioned Sayin's tape for a while now. This isn't as a result of this news, I just always thought it didn't really look too crazy. I'm still disappointed to see him go but I don't think it's program destroying or anything

I get being upset about Sayin, dude has amazing potential. But, at the end of the day, he never played a down for the Tide. We still have some good stuff in the QB room, and I think Mack is a good addition. But, much like Sayin, not going to get too excited about him until he actually plays some college football

I remember seeing you say this before Saban even retired.

I think there's a decent chance that Mack is ranked ahead of Sayin if he plays his senior year. Mack doesn't have a lot of experience (that doesn't mean he is "raw") which may mean we are getting a diamond in the rough. He could be the kind of guy that played one year as a junior and UW scooped him up before anyone else realized how good he'd be.

I think there's a less than zero chance that he starts next year. I think he's got a really good shot of being the backup.

I feel better after reading how upset Washington fans are, and Huard's comments. Apparently Mack, with a year in the system under his belt, is still younger than Sayin. Dude is huge and has a cannon. We will see how he does. But this isn't a bad pickup by any means.

I'm just frustrated that it appears DeBoer told Sayin to look elsewhere.

If DeBoer really told Sayin to look elsewhere, actually kinda badass if a little stupid. Maybe Kalen is telling guys on shaky ground with us to kick rocks and favoring the guys who are solid? Bold strategy.

Yea, I haven't seen this anywhere. It could have easily been that CKD took Mack because Sayin said peace.

Totally agree. If Sayin was encouraged to look elsewhere I think that's pretty short-sighted, but people really need to check Mack out. He can play. Big, mobile, rocket arm, and he's apparently a fantastic kid who was killing it in practice all of last season. If he had signed here under different circumstances all these dipshits currently spewing their menstrual blood everywhere would be talking him up.

We need this honestly. Having divas on the team has cost us 4 national championships. You can’t coach a quitter.

with zero evidence in assuming? Nobody knows what happened, maybe deboer did bring in Mack to push out Sayin, maybe Sayin indicated he was going to transfer so we got Mack, or maybe deboer wanted to just get another guy in the QB room and Sayin got intimidated and left. Nobody knows

He had a great relationship with BoB, so unsurprising.

Here's the thing to remember with both of these guys. In HS the played against 15-18 year old kids. Now they get to play against grown arse men. That's a huge reason why HS greatness doesn't always translate to college success.

That’s good info. Didn’t know that and honestly I wouldn’t follow BoB after watching him with Bryce and the dumpster fire patriots offense

Carlsbad CA is NOT Mater Dei. It's a beach town full of rich white liberals who DGAF about football. Folsom is completely different. Much more blue collar.
