I wondered about Hawaii. I don't know how big football is there - obviously there's some big dudes on the islands. Like if you take the best player out of Hawaii, and put him on the average TX hs team, how would he fare...

If Bama wins the natty this year, Tua will be the backup. If bama loses, then it will be up in the air

There are some really good players in Hawaii, but football as a whole there is not nearly as deep and competitive as it is in Texas or Georgia or Alabama.

Yeah - they send up quite a few guys up to Div I.....I have been to most parts of Hawaii and it is pretty backwoods and poor once you get off Oahau and the more tourist areas.....can't imagine its anything like Texas 4a and 5a high school football where you have a lot of really good teams with schools that have a lot of resources and a huge talent pool to draw from.

I think:

1) Tua Redshirts
2) Tua is JH's backup as a RSFR
3) Tua is either A) JH's backup as a RSSO or B) JH leaves early and Tua starts as a RSSO, RSJR, and RSSR
4) Tua's little bro comes in in 2019 and Redshirts
5) Tua and little bro are 1st and 2nd string in 2020
6) when Tua leaves, his little bro is the starter thus giving Bama fans 10 years of consistency at the position among dual threat talent, something we'd have never guessed only 3 years ago.

Jalen is fast enough, but is not a speed guy by any means. He is physical due to his training prior to arriving at Alabama.

Tua brings similar intangibles and is an excellent passer against HS competition, but he is nowhere near the runner that Jalen is. Jalen's ability to run along with his fearless approach as a ballcarrier is what allowed him to beat out the guys we already had on campus.

Jalen really would have benefitted from a RS this season, but the team needed his poise and ability to improvise. I really dont think we should expect Tua to be asked to do the same thing next season. In all honesty, we shouldnt need him to.

Yes sir. It is a shame that we didn't hit on a big time quarterback over a 3 year period. Hurts could of used a redshirt year for sure. We are very lucky that he showed up and like a boss took the job and became the weapon he is. Still needed a year to work on his passing. I think he was an option quarterback in high school.

You telling me he run a spread like Ole Miss or like Auburn. My dad keeps telling me he ran the option and that I should understand his problems throwing downfield.

I'd say just the spread, the one that is ever so prevalent in the state of Texas. There is read option from the shotgun, but that's in most of them. A lot of runs were improvised.

Now the shotgun/air raid in some capacities can stunt your growth as a passer, as there are more wide open and improvised opportunities. Timing and precision are not as emphasized with WRs running nothing but option routes(aka get open)...

Some of you guys act like we've lost 3 games. Barring a complete come apart by Jalen (not likely given his ability to put things behind him) or an injury, Jalen is the starter going into next year. Period.

Seriously. When it comes to QBs, we have the worst fans.

Only way Tua plays is if Hurts gets a serious injury. Let's all pray that doesn't happen.

Tua is getting RS. Bateman is backing Hurts up for his last season.

Of course he does. If he doesn't, he shouldn't be on the team.

Kiffin seems to be doing an ok job, imo, of scheming around our relatively poor intermediate to downfield passing game. What kind of concerns me, if Hurts doesn't improve by next season, is that rival coaches will start using it against us in recruiting the best wide receivers. Those guys want to play in the NFL, and they want to show what they can do downfield, not game after game after game of shovel and screen passes.

Actually Calvin understands it takes time for a freshman to get his legs under him and get passes to him on a constant basis.

The NFL is pretty good a evaluating players talent regardless of the system they play in. Hell, Demaryius Thomas played in a triple option offense at Georgia Tech and he was still a first round draft pick.

I'm sure that Calvin also understands that 500 yards receiving in a season isn't getting him in the first round.
I highly doubt that Jalen will go from about a 4 as a passer, to an 8+ in an offseason, but I hope I'm wrong.
I think Tua could very well take his job if he comes in and lights it up passing, as well as with the run
