I think it’s funny people think in 2026 that these major sports leagues are mostly dependent on ticket sales.

Baseball is largely dependent on regional sports networks which have collapsed in the last few years. A Louisiana team is just not going to get anywhere close to what most of the other teams do for their broadcasting rights.

Now that conference winner/automatic bids nonsense has been done away with after one year (that would have allowed 8-4 Duke a playoff spot if they'd won,) there truly is no reason for conference title games. ESPN will try to milk every penny out of it until SEC teams say enough is enough, so who knows when that will be.

It's still the 5 highest ranked conference champions that get automatic bids. They just did away with the top 4 seeds having to be champions.

God they’re such whiny bitches

"We have to stay in a Westin when we play there instead of a five star hotel" was what another player said. Paid millions to play fricking kids game and cry because they stay in a Westin. GTFO here man.

I can kind of get him bitching about "They tore one of our girl's jersey and didn't get called for a foul for it" during his in game interview...but the fact he was still harping on that in his post game pressor after the girl admitted she had ripped it herself out of frustration....come on man.
I look forward to seeing the MAGA Attorney Generals (lead by Ohio's Dave Yost) whose original lawsuit against the NCAA saying limiting transfers was unconstitutional now try and walk their words back to appease Daddy.

Both of those programs have way more historical success and are consistently in the top 10. Women's basketball does not have that established success to have long-term fans.

That. I played in basketball pep band for a couple of seasons between 07-10 and there were a couple of games where the pep band (~30). had more people in it than there were fans in the stands. Maybe we need to go old school gymnastics for a few years and just hand out tickets to school kids just to get more butts in seats for a couple of years.
Can't refute what I said can you? Proved you wrong and now you're butthurt

He received votes in 2021 you buffoon. And hilarious that you left out what he did last year in New York

He did not receive a vote in 2021: LINK

Because he was gone. Why would I include that? The Braves had (correctly) made the decision to move on before he received votes. He's not going to be worth that 8 year contract.

Again we can all blame AA until the cows come home but they are a publicly traded company. They will never spend what other teams are spending no matter who the GM is. Period. And the minute attendance goes down (which is probably going to happen this year with how much they raised season ticket prices this year combined with fan frustration over them not improving the roster) they will absolutely use it as an excuse to try and shed salary.

He's let an MVP 1B, gold glove SS, perennial top 3 Cy Young pitcher all walk in FA and traded away two franchise catchers in their pre-arb years... all within the last 5 years.

Max Fried received Cy Young votes in 2020 and 2022. That's it as a Brave. He was great for the Braves but he's not going to live up to that contract. Neither is Dansby for that matter. He's got a strict budget to stick to and either of those would have caused major damage to that.

Y'all have to let Freddie go man. Chipper told him if he was serious about staying in Atlanta he should take the Braves offer because if he went to free agency he wouldn't come back. Also warned him "Alex has a job to do" saying he wasn't going to wait around forever. If he waits until Freddie signs with LA to get Matt then the cost goes up even higher than it was.

Now you CAN fault him for doing nothing to try and shore up the rotation this year given all the injuries they had last year.
Football, Men's Basketball Sweep, Gymnastics, Baseball sweep. Not a good year for the "Everything School."

Uconn hired Hurley from Rhode Island though.

That's right my bad.

I think you're seeing why Byrne said she did "a commendable job" in his statement.

You don't need to go to a blueblood anymore to win big.

When was the last time one of those legitimately "stole" a coach away though? Duke promoted from within, as did UNC last, UCONN hired the Vermont coach, UCLA is nothing but retreads and mid majors because they're always broke, etc. Was Roy Williams "mama calling" the last time it really happened? Even then he turned them down three years before.

Pat Summit literally graduated from college in 1974 and became the head coach at Tennessee. That was also 50 years ago. Jim Tressel was Division 1-AA not division 3. Bo Ryan went from Division 3 to Wisconsin-Milwaukee. There is a huge difference from any NCAA level and JUCO. She may be amazing at Alabama. But I never want to hire a coach without any sort of NCAA experience.

I hope Byrne is leaning heavily into his, "At a blueblood you will always exist in someone else's shadow, if you stay here future coaches will exist in your shadow," pitch with Oats.

Oats mentioned that very fact in an interview he did with one of the basketball podcasts back in 2020 or 2021. Said he talked to Brad Stevens after he at talked with Byrne but before he accepted the Alabama job and asked what his opinions were in regards to whether he should stay at Buffalo like he had done for a few years at Butler or take a job at a football focused school like Alabama and that Brad told him something to the effect of "If I ever leave the NBA to return to college it would be at a football first school so I don't have to be the face of the athletic department like I was at Butler and I can just focus on coaching basketball."

Isn’t Graves funding a lot of this? I think they have another billionaire alum as well.

And that's one reason I'm in no hurry to even try their chicken.

Withholding judgment until he gets through this coaching carousel with Nate Oats still wearing plaid.

He could give Oats the world but if he wants a job like UNC/KU and takes it that shouldn't reflect on Alabama's AD. Just like DeBoer leaving Washington days after losing the CFPNC shouldn't reflect on Washington's AD.

Nobody's reading all that. I'm of the opinion that franchise history should revert back to the original city in the event of a name change if the original city receives a new franchise.

This. Want the old heritage? Keep everything including the name. The fact the Titans are reverting Oiler's style uniforms should be criminal.

Don't you have to declare in January?

The WNBA is still (financially) all smoke and mirrors that's critically dependent on massive hand outs from the NBA. Not exactly a stable and sustainable business process.

So is virtually every single college athletic program in America
