So I would guess Cotton and Piersbacher FINALLY get benched.

I thought the main issue was RG and RT (Womack).

Early bowl practice is like spring ball. They do all sorts of combination stuff and experiments. I wouldn't get too excited about anything involving new lineups or guys moving around.

Only way Ross isn't on the line is if he's still injured, he's graded as a top 10 lineman in the SEC.

Putting true freshmen on the edge against the best DL in the nation is just asking for it.

You don't put this inside at this point...

Womack has been solid in run blocking. He isnt quick enough and doesnt have good enough feet to pass block on the outside. Slide him in to Guard and I think he will be very good.

Piersbacher already got benched once in favor of Hassanauer. It could happen again. I just think he is soft and has been the last 3 years IMO.

He was injured, that was the only reason Hass played. Hass played well against Mercer, then he got pulled for an injured Ross within 2 drives against Auburn because Dontavious Russell was eating his lunch...

I thought Hassanauer went out due to a concussion against Auburn.

Everybody says move Womack to guard but I think he's too tall. Anybody agree?

It’s really hard to switch around your OL this late in the game. We had chances to try that against a very soft middle of our schedule and didnt. Womack is fine as a run blocker but is not SEC level in pass pro. That is a major problem. He would make a good guard but is borderline too tall, especially with a shorter QB.

I’ll also say this, in 3rd and long situations we should have a TE glued to Womack’s hip. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why our coaches just left him on and island to be abused against Auburn in obvious passing downs. If a guy clearly can’t handle it, game plan some help for him. Our coaches straight up got outcoached in the IB. Especially on offense.

Cotton won best OL in the team banquet. Seems like the coaching staff is higher on him then we are.

He's definitely improved a lot this year. He still struggles at times getting beat off the snap by quick DT's but he's at least decent now. RT is the weak leak to be sure right now.

Can the team practice at 6:30 tomorrow morning so we have something to talk about during a boring work day?

How Alabama is filling Jeremy Pruitt's spot in practices before he returns | al.com
quote:

Eight of the nine Alabama assistant coaches were on the field when the Crimson Tide returned to practice Friday afternoon.

Noticeably absent was defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who coaches the middle linebackers.

The new early signing period that starts Dec. 20 changed the dynamic for new head coaching hires like Pruitt at Tennessee who juggle two jobs this time of year. The contact period ends Sunday and he'll be back to Alabama practice after that.

Until then, there's it's a group effort.

"We're all kind of filling in where we can," Nick Saban said Friday.

Former Alabama player Wes Neighbors, now an intern with the program, has worked under Pruitt all season. The grandson of Alabama legend Billy Neighbors leading the middle linebacker drills.

Outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi is also helping with the middle linebackers.

The Tide has seven practices in Tuscaloosa before taking a break Dec. 23 for Christmas. The routine picks up in New Orleans on Dec. 27 before the Sugar Bowl with Clemson on New Year's Day.

Saban also said he was happy for Pruitt's opportunity to get the head coaching job in Knoxville.

"We'll do as much as we can to support him to be able to do what he needs to here to help our players and our team," Saban said. "I appreciate what he's doing to show the gratitude that he has for the players that worked for him all year to help have the success that helped give him the opportunity."

Nick Saban talks Clemson prep, early signing period issues | al.com
quote:

Nick Saban addressed the media Friday as Alabama begins preparations for its College Football Playoff semifinal matchup with Clemson.

Here is a summary of what he said:

-- Saban said defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who has been recruiting as Tennessee's head coach, will be back on Sunday.

-- Saban said he was happy former stars Rolando McClain and Glen Coffee came back to graduate.

-- Saban said Alabama has hired UTSA assistant Pete Golding as the tenth assistant coach, but he won't be on the field until Jan. 9, when that position becomes available per NCAA rules.

-- Saban said Alabama has to utilize its personnel better as a way to improve the passing game.

-- Saban said Mack Wilson was a bit limited and that Christian Miller and Terrell Lewis are "full go."

-- Saban said an intern, Wes Neighbors, is overseeing the inside linebackers with Pruitt out. Tosh Lupoi is also involved.

-- Saban said he is not pleased with the early signing period because it has created a lot of stress.

-- When asked about the third-down issues, Saban said he has been recruiting every day and that his attention hasn't been focused on self-scouting.
