I'm sure that Jalen was taking first team reps, and Tua was taking second team reps, at least for majority of practice.

However...

Saban said Alabama has to utilize its personnel better as a way to improve the passing game.

What could this possibly mean besides Tua getting some serious playing time? I guess you could say that he could be referring to better pass blocking personnel, or taking advantage of shorter, quicker passes out of the slot? Idk

I meant if he found anything out about Tua’s “role” in the Clemson game. Boz said he might know more after today’s practice.

I take it to mean going through the progressions and looking at multiple receivers instead of focusing on 1 receiver.

Jalen was first team but that’s to be expected. It will be a few practices before I know some things. But, like I said, Tua’s capacity is unknown at this time, it may just be for a shake up.

What’s the attitude with Pruitt not being there.. players wise? This is what worried me, about bowl preparations. It’s hard to juggle two jobs and do them both very well.. I know I was shite for the last two weeks of my job with my other company.. I was too busy building a territory for my new gig.

Between Tosh,Saban, Ansley, and Golding ( He can help with game plan) They should be okay. In fact, I expect the game plan to be better, and I don't see no reason for anyone to be nervous.

Alabama Football Practice Notes: 12/15/2017
TideSports
quote:

This afternoon was the first day of practice for Alabama in the postseason. The Crimson Tide was working inside and wearing shells. The weather in Tuscaloosa was cloudy and a bit chilly, but I’d imagine they were inside mainly to simulate conditions for the Superdome in New Orleans.

Here’s what we saw during the two open periods:

The portion we saw wasn’t a normal Monday or midweek practice. Things seemed to go a little slower, and we didn’t see some of the units do drills as a group like we normally would. That makes sense for the first day back after a long layoff. The open portion didn’t feature nickel or dime packages, didn’t include all five offensive linemen working together with a running back, things like that.

Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was not at practice today. I didn’t watch his introductory press conference at Tennessee to see if he said it specifically, but I’d expect him to be gone for tomorrow’s practice as well until the dead period arrives on Monday. There’s no recruiting from the 18th until after the championship game, so this is his only chance to get out on the road for Tennessee.

Shaun Dion Hamilton was helping out with the inside linebacker drills. He’s obviously out for the season, but Mack Wilson (foot) was working with the group as it did individual drills. He played

Terrell Lewis and Christian Miller were also working with the outside linebackers. They both played in the Auburn game and should be expected to be ready for the Sugar Bowl as well.

Offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher (high ankle sprain) was practicing and seemed to be working with starting center Bradley Bozeman, so I’d say he seems to be in good shape to play in New Orleans. His injured ankle may have been taped a little more, but it was hard to tell for sure.

Since there weren’t many combined drills, like I said above, no way to tell if Tosh Lupoi was taking a bigger role with the defense or if any other staffers had roles shuffled around.

Also, because we didn’t see nickel or dime packages, we didn’t get to see who might replace Hootie Jones at safety. I’d expect Minkah Fitzpatrick to get some play there in regular, and Deionte Thompson to fill the spot in nickel and dime packages. But that could change, obviously.

LaBryan Ray, Miller Forristall and Brandon Kennedy were all on the stationary bikes at practice today.

By the way, today is the last day of finals at Alabama and commencement is tomorrow. Alabama will practice on Saturday and take Sunday off.

He is a players coach for sure!! I remember the players were very excited to have him as a DC. Seems to relate to them well.. he will get some good player at UT. Saban’s coaching tree is defiantly branching out. It’s amazing what all he had done for college football. Truly is the GOAT of NCAA football.

So what does it mean exactly when one qb is taking first team snaps vs second team snaps. Does it amount to which receivers he’s throwing to?

Everytime I see practice, it seems like the QBs are all doing exactly the same thing unless it is a scrimmage.

So all of a sudden theyre going to teach Jalen how to find the right recievers? That just doesn’t make sense to me.

If it was that easy, they would have already done so,

It has to mean utilizing a different qb, at least in spots. Or... God forbid, more bubble screens and jet sweeps. Arrhgghhh. The thought makes me sick.

At least we know the deficiencies in the passing game are foremost in Saban’s mind and that he isn’t just blaming the oline for everything

The difference between 1st and 2nd team snaps is personnel and the amount of snaps taken will almost always be greater with 1st team.

Also the shake up in the passing game is they have changed a few things as in how the routes are being ran, to make it easier on Jalen going through his check downs.

Everything the media views is exactly what Saban wants and he is the master of it. The order of the QBs relates to reps with the 1st team. It will come together give it some time and I’ll know more.

I agree Boz that Saban releases info that he wants released. That's why I find it odd that the tua might play info was leaked. I know you know folks inside the program. If Saban told everyone to keep this in house ,then I am sure your contacts would have told you and you in turn would've respected that.
This day and age with the staffs being so big I am sure clemson knows about this rumor, and will spend a few minutes each day practicing for it.

Saban did say that about improving the passing game. He also added something to the effect of they will simplify things to make them easier. That doesn't instill any confidence in me that we are developing a Tua package. We're just dumbing down the progressions again to reduce and simplify the reads for whoever is QB. When do we admit Jalen just ain't working out as a passer and give it up? If you can't throw, you're running half an offense and the opponent knows it. You won't win many games against even halfway decent competition that way.
