LSU Files To Dismiss SEC Lawsuit, Conference Says Dispute Remains 'Unresolved'

LSU and the State of Louisiana are looking to end the SEC's federal lawsuit as the legal battle between the two sides continues.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and the other defendants filed a motion Friday asking the federal court in Alabama to dismiss the SEC's lawsuit with prejudice.

The filing argues that there is no longer an active controversy after LSU ultimately did not add former professional players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to its 105-man roster.

Louisiana is also challenging whether the Alabama court has jurisdiction over the defendants and whether the SEC's complaint presents a valid legal claim.

Murrill released a statement Friday explaining the decision to seek dismissal:

Today, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill moved to dismiss the federal lawsuit filed by the Southeastern Conference.

“While I appreciate attempts by both sides to de-escalate, the SEC has not moved to end the federal lawsuit against LSU or me, as Attorney General. It is therefore appropriate for me to act in the sovereign interests of the State of Louisiana and move for its dismissal. The case is improper and moot.” - AG Liz Murrill

The SEC later responded with a statement of its own, saying issues between the conference and LSU remain unresolved:

The SEC filed its lawsuit earlier this month amid the dispute over whether LSU could roster players who had previously pursued professional football opportunities.

LSU and SEC officials had reportedly been discussing a possible resolution in recent days, but Friday's filing signals that the legal dispute is not over yet.

Ole piss is having to go on the road to other SEC schools with an ineligible QB. You think they will sit back and let them unfairly get something they didn’t get the same treatment? frick no. These schools are all competing for the conference title and will stop at nothing to get it.

Actually, how can you not blame them. LSU was denied players that Texas, Ole Miss, and South Carolina already have on their teams. Sankey is in "bitch mode" because he was rightfully made a fool of in Louisiana court for not even knowing what the 5 for 5 ruling was. Sankey also admitted he really doesn't know what a definition for a professional player was.

If this suit isn't dropped soon Sankey and the SEC will end up on the wrong side in court with both the players and the state of Louisiana.

I am tired of getting passive aggressiveness, bias, and duplicit "support" from the SEC I mean Alabama, the SEC, I mean Alabama...you get the point. I want us to leave the SEC so we won't have to deal with this bs anymore. I know there are other SEC programs that feel the same way. LSU leaves the SEC, creates the Big South with LSU, NotreDame, FSU, Miami, Auburn, Florida, Miss st., Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and 1 other SEC team. A new conference where it's members are treated fairly and have the same level of support. In this day and age, it seems like this or something like this will happen. They can't stand that LSU is building an awesome program with all the college sports. The SEC is like how dare you... That's the problem. We won't be a part of the SEC by the end of the year.
