Kirk Herbstreit Warns What Could Happen To Loser Of LSU-Texas A&M Game

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes Saturday’s LSU-Texas A&M matchup could have major consequences beyond just another loss.

Both teams enter the game at 2-1 after suffering disappointing losses last week. LSU fell 32-24 at Ole Miss, while Texas A&M was upset at home by Kentucky.

During an appearance on ESPN’s *Get Up!* on Friday, Herbstreit suggested the loser could have a difficult time keeping players focused if their College Football Playoff hopes begin to fade.

“Whoever loses this game is going to have a team that is going to start having their agents talking about ‘Where am I going to go?’” Herbstreit said.

“When their players are out of the Playoff, they lose interest quickly and they start thinking about their next season,” he added. “So, there is a lot at stake in this game.”

Maybe, maybe not. But it does seem that a lot of teams in the SEC have a ‘natty or bust’ mentality which is clearly not sustainable, especially with what Herbie’s talking about here.

Respectfully disagree. May happen with some. If they suck the rest of this year they're not going to make any money next year so why not go ahead and play hard and earn the million dollars you're already getting paid this year.... that's something to play for. And maybe increase your value to 2 million next year even if it's at a different spot.

I agree. These players are at LSU because they are winners. They will work as hard as they can to win and get to that next level. Herbstreit did not ever, ever play against an LSU Tiger.

Pretty sure he was on the Ohio st team that tied lsu in a day game in 1987 where Archer crapped the bed.. 13-13. I was at that game. Chris Spielman was a LB on that team for them. Eric and Olsen nearly beat Speilman down during the coin toss.

That’s why those players are there now. The paycheck. I know all Louisianans believe the players love LSU with all their soul just like think they are worshipped around the rest of the country as they are in Louisiana. Same with A&M.
