We play 6 of the top 8 in the toughest conference in America, and we are one of the other 2. So 6 of the top 7 not named LSU. And 2 of those in the first 4 weeks, including the return to Ole Miss. What a schedule.

Everybody just keeps talking about college football playoff, national championship. I hope we are a part of both, but also this is one of those seasons to just savor the week to week. I know other teams will have an easier path to the CFP, lucky to even hit one ranked team during the season.

It's a 2 edged sword. A schedule like this can definitely keep you out of the cfp but it gives you a reason to be absolutely juiced every week of the season. I'll take it. Can't wait!

I get that you're questioning his opinion. You specifically put the word "guy" in quotes. Are you also questioning if Hunt is even a man?

FWIW. Hunt can sometimes be completely wrong. But his takes are always based on sound logic, personal observation, and research. I haven't necessarily heard him pound his chest when he's right. What I have heard him do, when he completely bombs, is come back, remind you what he said and own up to exactly how bad he missed it.

Probably because the op said absolutely nothing suggesting that home runs are all that matters in baseball. He just made an interesting observation about the number of home runs from a small school in one game versus a dynasty in a championship run. I read it and took it exactly how he meant it.. "humm, that's interesting...."

Yes these guys were all monsters in high school but a few things change.

Generally as you move up in classification the strike zone gets a little bit tighter. The expectation is higher at the higher levels. It's a stretch of an example but the umps in little league obviously have a much bigger strike zone than what the book says. Otherwise every kid in little league would walk. It tightens each step up so maybe these guys are getting squeezed a little more than they're used to in high school

Also it's the first time they're probably getting true professional pitching "help." Probably more tinkering with their delivery, arm slot, mechanics than they've ever had before. I suspect this creates even more movement on their pitches than they had in high school. Which means they are harder to hit but also struggle more with control. Hence the extremely high walk, HBP number along with high strikeouts.

And lastly seems like every pitcher we bring on is 6"5" +. We all know in any sport the taller you are the harder it is to duplicate mechanics. That can be where leverage, velocity, and other things come from but it can also work against you on consistency and hitting spots.

May have nothing to do with any of that or could be some combo. Just what pops into my brain while trying to make sense of these great high school athletes struggling once they hit tigertown

Yeah, it's just the little things we leave on the field. The third strike call on Brown was not our fault, he should have been on first that was definitely ball 4.

Then not scoring on a ball that gets past the right fielder with two outs. Get that walk call score that run we've got two runs across already and still batting. Easily can eventually be the difference in winning and losing. Just never seem to get the most out of a situation / inning. more times than not we just do not make the pitch, hit, defensive play that makes the difference in the game
