They’re entirely different on a fundamental way. Basketball players aren’t defined by their physicality.

Physicality matters, but obviously not as much. At the same time, why is it not similar that coaches who want to run a specific style of play, need to recruit to that style.

I would think Edwards probably wants to see that we’ll be playing at a pace he can take 20 shots a game and scoring 75+ points (hopefully) vs. slowing it down and playing at the pace we had with Fox. I might be wrong, but in the first year where we suck, I’m fine with showing what we’re trying to do going forward instead of doing more of the same of what we had last year with the same or worse results.

The difference between crean and fox styles is no where close to the enormous gap between the triple option and whatever Collins is installing.

The biggest issue is the lack of improvement. Whatever excuse you want to give crean doesn't explain the lack of improvement. But if he's like Kirby and can recruit top guys it probably won't matter. Bball is even more about the Joe's than football.

I know. I was trying to say they’re comparable with reasoning. I don’t think Crean has been great this year, but I thought Kirby was garbage in year 1. So basically I’m just going to wait a couple years before getting pissed about what we get out of Crean. Needs to recruit players for his system and college basketball is almost impossible nowadays without a PG. A&M has that same problem this year.

Because basketball players can be versitle.

You don’t have to stick to one playstyle the full game. And then Crean can take that film to Edwards and explain to him that’s where he’ll fit in.

Also, don’t forget, we are averaging 74.7 points a game.

We are scoring in stretches. But we can’t maintain those stretches. That’s the issue. In many of the games we’ve lost this year, we’ve had at least a double digit lead at some point.

It sounds like he is saying, "It's the bad players, not my great coaching."

The proper phrasing for that coach comment is "We just didn't execute."

Do you consider Kirby a good coach?

Did you guys call out Kirby for leaining into LeCounte in pressers? He directly challenged LeCounte. Doesn't seem to have hurt his recruiting. Why would this be different? The man has been to the Final Four and Sweet 16 multiple times. He was left with an ok cupboard with no point guard. Let's give the guy a little benefit of the doubt and a couple more years' recruiting cycles THEN filet him. Let's see how the team responds.

He's right, we suck. Now we'll see if he can get better players in the program. Time will tell.

I’m alwaysbfornchallenging players.

I’m not ok EVER with any coaches ever making excuses

As I mentioned earlier, im not a huge fan of the quote but I completely understand it. It’s hard to take a lot of people’s outrage about this seriously when they’ve watched our basketball team play maybe 1 game all year. You actually follow the team so even though we disagree from time to time, I think we’re more on the same page with this.

It's not likely to make him any friends with the guys that he's referring to on the roster today, but the reality is they aren't getting it done. Is there a better way he could have phrased that statement to sound a little less dickish? Sure... But I'm also not going to run around screaming in outrage when he's not wrong. A LOT of incoming coaches bounce a portion of the roster on the way in... he didn't... and frankly while it's been a challenging season, I think it was for the best. By the time he got hired, we had lost traction with some of the better players that Fox had us in it with so he'd have been filling the void with potentially worse players than what were already on the roster. You take your lumps this year and then fill up with what you need next.

Edwards committed to the dawgs so that's a hell of an add... with now 3 top 100 players, one obviously being #1 overall.

For sure. I just think it’s easier to show him that we’re trying to run this style of offense that goes up and down the court. Our shooting is better than last year and so is our scoring. Our TO differential is just killing us and so you tell Edwards he’s going to have/get the ball a ton in a fast paced offense.

Crean talked with the players Saturday. Said he mis-spoke. Today Claxton said the team is closer than ever. Will be interesting to see how we come out and play this week.

Interesting. I'd be curious what point he was trying to make that he felt was just a "misspoke" moment there... I will also be interested to see how the effort looks this week.

If he truly recovered from this and used it to bond the team, then I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. On the surface, it sounded like something a Non-leader would say.

Given our basketball history I don't give a frick what he says or does so long as he wins.

Today is a step in the right direction and gives the bird to the "Georgia Way" douches.
