Your whole analysis of Shipley is wrong. He is very much like McCaffrey is other ways than skin tone and barber. Even so, he is currently a ND lean at the moment.

No he's not.

Watch these:

McCaffery HUDL

Shipley HUDL

There's no freaking way anyone can watch those and think they are similar.

McCaffery jukes 4 guys in his first run, then does a spin move and jukes 2 more guys out of their jocks in the second run alone. Then he hurdles 3-4 feet over a guy on a later run.

Shipley doesn't juke but maybe one guy in his entire film, and certainly doesn't spin or hurdle anyone. He's a one-cut and go back who can also catch and can muscle through contact. He has very little wiggle, and certainly nothing remotely close to McCaffery.

Geez. Dude is slow. Guess he's not going to be the home run threat. Hope he's got something that compensates, like uncanny instincts or tremendous power for his size.

Your watching a highlight clip. Your not seeing other plays not included in the video. Seen him several times in person and he has very similar wiggle and watched him hurtle a linebacker on the way to a long TD run. If that’s the kinda stuff your looking for. CMac talks to the kid about how their game compares.

If he can turn out as good as another Edwards we had a number of years ago then I’d be good with it. Go Dawgs!

After watching him actually play football, 4.81 must be bad technique or a small injury or something because he doesn’t look 4.81 slow to me. More like 4.65

Meh... It really looks about right. He looks like he compares extremely similarly to Holyfield stylistically, and he was a high 4.7-4.8 40 time at the combine... He could probably have 0.05 off or maybe even a full 0.1 with some effort put into his start/first few steps in general, but the timing's probably pretty accurate relative to his footage.

It just isn't the best measurement of football speed. It's a good measurement for straight line acceleration and top end cap, which matters a lot to the NFL, because they're trying to stack their rosters with elite physical talents. In college, the defenses while good in the SEC are not that physically gifted across the board, so as long as you've got good burst/cut ability you can be successful.

I just watched his senior highlights.

Reminds me a lot of knowshon. Elite feet. Gets skinny through the hole. Comes off as extremely slippery. The kind of kid who can get you 15+ touchdowns rushing.

We are going to be very happy that we got Edwards.

Mark my words.

Preach AD.

Like DOT34 (shocking that we agree, I know), I personally would have opted for Evans if I were in the coaches shoes barring some particularly concerning info that maybe they're privy to that we're not, but in no way am I sad about the Edwards pickup. I think he'll be a productive back for us in all likelihood, and additionally has a high likelihood to go the distance and stay for 4 years IMO (due to that lack of elite top end speed, and how that factors into draft projections). If Holyfield had been healthy his first 2 years, we'd have seen a lot more of him than we did, so I hope Edwards can stay healthy and give us similar rate of output, just for more overall time. If so, I think we'll all be more than happy.

Kirby did the right thing, the right way, and everyone will be better for it.

What gets lost in all the rumors, rankings and social media nonsense is that these are just kids.

One of these is not like the other

Admittedly I haven't watched the kid but you really can't be more opposite than Holyfield and Knowshon and I'd much rather have someone who is similar to Knowshon. Its an obvious need with Swift leaving and a more spread out offense.

It’s not far fetched to compare the two. Neither of them had burner speed. Stylistically I thought of Holyfield as more physical and Knowshon as more finesse but both made their money making the first few guys miss. And both guys got run down. A lot.

What’s far more awkward is comparing Knowshon to Swift

When contemplating issues like Milton, Evans & Edwards I think to moments in our history that we've all touched on, like Crowell, and the Chubb/Michel recruitment where Sony was the higher-ranked recruit, coming into Athens.

Edwards sounds like he has an outstanding work ethic. Looking forward to his contribution.

Really hoping to see another Herrien or Brendan Douglas type of player who will just work hard and earn the reps he’s given.
