I mean he’s not the raw talent Evans is but he seems somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 times more likely to stay on the team and represent us well. There was still no guarantee we’d ever get Evans after whatever exactly happened

I see the chopper’s been at several high schools today. He apparently also visited Shad Dabney at Riverside Miltary in Gainesville and then went to Alpharetta.

He’s in full Trump-campaign-level travel mode

Radi just said on his FB that "UGA passed on Evans a month ago."

Don't get too excited. Alabama and Clemson aren't done yet, either.

That said, I am very happy with our class and I also know we aren't done.

I really think we will be happy with him.

First two minutes of his senior tape is pretty nice. Dude breaks some tackles for sure.

If we can't find two productive guys between he, Milton, White and McIntosh, we're doing something wrong.

Kid can play. He's not a burner, but he has great vision and runs hard.

I don't think he sees the field this season, but after he adds 15 lbs he'll definitely make an impact.

What worries me is how easy it is for high school DB's to run him down virtually every run that hits the secondary. College DB's are even faster.

He might be good for short yardage, but he's certainly no homerun threat.

Very much looks like a similar running style to Elijah Holyfield coming out of HS to me:

Elijah: LINK
Daijun: LINK

Both of them look to have slow burst in their first 1-2 steps which costs them severely in 40yard dash times, but doesn't impact their actual game speed all that much as they are frequently taking those steps to go get the ball and then have some momentum at that point... Looks like pretty good one cut burst and doesn't go down to the ground easily on contact.

I'm generally in the trust the coaches camp... Evans might have superior talent, but if he's gone in a year or less, do you care? This guy seems to have a pretty head down and get it done mentality (supposedly the delay in heavy attention for us was because he was behind in schoolwork, but did the damn work to make the cut. See: Herrien, Brian).

My guess is similar to Elijah, he'll be hell to bring down for less than 4-6 yards, and good chance he can go for 10-15 regularly... 20+ is likely only on busted defensive assignments or breaking a tackle on the edge for example.

Good vert and shuttle. That's more important than 40 for a RB imo. Good lateral movement and gets through fast.
Lacks top end speed, but catches the ball really well. Like all backs coming in he needs to work on ball security. Saw him early in his junior year and he didn't disappoint.

'21 class is also very deep at running back.

Yeah I pegged him as a Holyfield clone over on DN, too.

People are like, "He looks faster than 4.8 in his film!", but the fact every single high school DB is easily running him down literally every run means he really is that slow.

BUT, dude has elite lateral and stop/start agility, plus great vision, as well as great contact balance. If our OL is having a tough time opening up holes against any DL's, Edwards will probably shine in those games because he'll create short yardage where it shouldn't exist.

Homerun threats are nice and can break the spirit of a defense, but a bruiser breaks the will of a defense.

We have a homerun threat in Cook and he has trouble holding on to the ball (Seemed to have improved this year) and hasn't really broken a long TD run yet, that I can remember.

Next year we are going after Will Shipley who is an APB. Not sure what is time is, though.

Personally, I prefer Evan Pryor and Cody Brown next year, but Shipley is good, too.

Sorry to get off topic but what explosion has cook ever shown? He's a change of pace guy who can play different personnel packages without having to change personnel packages.

Back to Edwards, his top speed isn't as important as his agility in a phone booth that can turn a 2 yd gain into a 13 yd gain by making the first guy miss. How is he in that department?

Edwards isn't a bruiser, he's a shifty make ya miss guy. He's 5'10, 200, and reminds me of Jacquizz Rodgers, but obviously taller.

Will Shipley is a one-cut north-south power/speed back with great hands and can line up in the slot. Pretty fast and muscles through contact. But not shifty at all. Very little wiggle. Reminds me of Tevin Coleman.

People keep trying to compare him to Christian McCaffery because he's white, has short hair, and is built about the same. But it's a terrible comparison. McCaffery has significantly more lateral and start/stop agility than Shipley.

Skrong... See highlights I linked. His lateral cut and burst looks very good.

Additionally looks to be an elite receiving back... Seamless catch while running often in the clips.

Yes, Edwards can make a couple guys miss and even wiggle out of contact a bit, turning 0-2 yard gains into 10-12 yard 1st downs. He can also catch contested 20 yard wheel routes as his hands are spectacular.

He's really a decent back in these regards. BUT, we all thought we sorta had this already in Milton who is virtually the same thing, just bigger.

Zamir White is really the only back we have that can outrun defenders with any certainty.

BTW, wait until you guys see Raleek Brown. He'll be a Dawg in 2022.
