Interesting but not unexpected. I wish him the best.

Well, it’s still today, and it appears Arizona has its man. According to a tweet from Gil Brandt, the Wildcats will hire Kevin Sumlin as their next head coach.

He'll do well in a soft conference with lower expectations, and their fan base won't care about his personal shenanigans.

I think he can do well there if he still recruits at a decent level (as in top 30 or so). PAC-12 is more suited to what he’s trying to do on offense so I could see him keeping them consistently average most years. Who knows, they might let him hang around a long time if he keeps them 7-5 to 9-3 most of the time.

PAC12 gonna learn.
Sumlin will feast upon most outside of USC Washington.

He will lock down Arizona recruiting. Hell he already did that twice from Texas

He’s not as good of a coach as rich rod.

SOURCE: New #Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin will retain DC Marcel Yates (they worked together at A&M) as Cats defensive coordinator. Noel Mazzone is expected to be the new OC. RBs coach Clarence McKinney also is expected to join staff.
RIP Arizona

And Stanford. He's not scoring vs that team.
He'll also likely get owned by UCLA...and probably lose a lot to Utah as well.
But he will have fun 50/50 shootouts vs Mike Leach, so there's that . 7-8 win seasons in Tucson.

Clearance McKinney must have incriminating photos of Sumlin doing coke or killing a panda.
It's the only explanation.

I never said he was better, just that he could be moderately successful there. But your comment made me look up their respective head coaching records for win/loss percentage.
Rich rod - .574
Sumlin - .667
So by the numbers.....he technically is.

Do you have to bash the guy now that he's gone? Isn't that what LSU does to their former coaches? He's gone. Wish him well and be big about it. That's just my two cents worth. Carry on.

Oh I'm sorry.
He's gonna win National Championships at Arizona.
Is that better? In all honesty, I don't even know where I purportedly bashed him . As a matter of fact, I'd actually like to add to that list. As long as Cal has Tim DeRuyter, that's a loss for Sumlin. DeRuyter is pretty good at scheming against spread, up-tempo offenses (not that Sumlin was up tempo towards the end of his Aggy career, but it was still a spread.)
When it's all said and done, Sumlin will have losing records against;
USC
Washington
UCLA
Stanford
Utah
Cal (if DeRuyter stays around)

Khalil Tate should be a really good fit for Mazzone's offense TBH.

Assuming he runs the offense he ran with Knight yes. I don’t think anyone is a good fit for whateverthefrick he ran this year which seemed to have a lot less RPOs and no identity

His official Arizona press release didn't mention his wife, so cutting that $10M from A&M in half and I see why he's working again so soon
