LSU openings and TBDs
Posted by Smoke Ring on 10/26/25 at 7:58 pm
LSU hitting on all cylinders is arguably the top NCAA FB job and there's no arguing it's a Top 5 job.
Any replacement for CBK is going to have to know a few things, for sure, before coming to one of the nation's murder capitals to coach football:
1). What is the LSU financial situation? Can they afford the buyouts? Is money laundering through Our Lady of the Lake hospital system still occurring to prop up the football program?
2). What about the AD--is he out too? If so, who will be AD? Scott Woodward saddled A&M with Jimbo Fisher and saddled LSU with Brian Kelly. Can such an AD get to keep a job after the CBK disaster?
3). Is LSU in an NIL world as advantaged as LSU in a world where recruits can sell shoes on EBay for $1,000's or get riverboat casino chips in their pockets to grease skids?
All this to be said there are 3 names that can make LSU happy on the backside of alll this and make all issues go away:
1). Nick Saban. Make him say no.
2). Lane Kiffin. LSU > Ole Miss. Nothing else needs to be said
3). Tie for #3: Clark Lea or Brent Key.
Answer the above questions for the above-named individuals on this list and land them and LSU is rolling again.

re: How much cultural overlap is there between East Texas and NW Louisiana?

1. East Texas has roads. Louisiana has roads. That's where the similarity ends with regard to roads -- an FM road in East Texas or a Ranch Road in West Texas is smoother and better painted than a state or US highway in Louisiana. I've never understood this because it's the same in Texas from Brownsville to Dalhart and Marshal to El Paso. And Texas doesn't even have a "road use tax" like LA -- where is THAT money going? :spank:
2. Gas stations are noticeably different. The "out in the middle of nowhere mega gas station" is a Texas thing. Lots of pumps, big bathrooms, 50 Lotto scratch-offs for sale, etc.
3. Mileage signs out in the middle of nowhere showing mileage to cities, towns, and "slow spots in the road" are ubiquitous on almost every turn-off in East Texas. Don't see them near as frequently in Louisiana.
3. Louisiana has much better seafood restaurants.
Thanks for attending my Tex talk.

Flying Ragged US Flags

Stop. I don’t care if it was Paw Paw’s. Get a new American flag to fly and properly retire your faded and tattered US flag whipping in the wind on your roadside pole. Just because Johnny Cash wrote a song about it doesn’t mean it’s right. Proudly display a new and colorful :usa:

Using a sale to get one's business "in the black" has little to nothing to do with blacks :doublebird:

When you hear inflation and a percentage rate, just imagine it as
Uncle Sam reaching into your bank accounts and taking that percentage of money away
because that's what inflation does to your purchasing power
stealth robbery :doublebird:

Y'all need to read closer. There was more to it than "he can't feed his family"

It's not that he's not making enough money, he can't operate ethically AND profitably ... it's choose one and lose the other ....
Doctors just up and quitting

I know two M.D.s that are in their early 50s who have walked away from medicine, and another internal medicine doctor who's been a buddy since childhood told me last night that he gave 120 days notice to his partnership last Friday.
Common reasons: they can't truly practice medicine, they can only operate like a rat in the maze that insurance gives them; burnout from seeing too many patients each day and only getting a couple of minutes with each; and basically not being able to make a profit unless the "fudge" (lie) on billing items.
My buddy has been tore up about it for two years, and says he can't go to hell for lying on billing just to feed his family, he'll find another line of work.
I think our healthcare system in the USA is about to take another big dip down over the next 5-10 years. :spank: :usa:

Good answer.
Stay away from Beaumont and Port Arthur. And if you go to the country, spend the money to make sure the house won't flood. Some homes in SETX should've never been built.

re: Are we starting to like Klein? What do we need to see to believe he’s the right guy?
Posted by Smoke Ring on 10/28/24 at 12:17 pm to Old Sarge
coastAg brought up the great point that the "threat of dual QBs" was how Klein rolled last year with KSU. In the limited practice world of CFB, it puts quite the stress on a defense.
