I think we will miss Lockhart at DE. I think he would have been a starter this year.

Good. Bomb that shite out

Excited for Paul. His HS film was always exciting. Glad to hear positivity from the corners. Not sure what they were expecting from Hines? He was never a monster, just had a great nose for the ball. Did he not make the weight coaches were asking for?

QB competition, etc is nice but it will be defense or likely lack thereof that decides Sumliin/Chavis job status this year. Another LSU going in dry and they gone, even if (not happening) 9 wins.

Liucci is actually pretty down on the QBs

The bottom line is Starkel is gonna throw some picks, he can be wild and trusts his arm way too much. The fact is though the playbook is completely available with him and it isn't with Hubes or Mond. When he plays well he is much better than those two right now.

Yep, reading through my 3 week premium sub, the biggest worry over there is the QB position. They don't seem to have a good handle on who the starter, whether just first game or whole season, will be. A lot of speculation over there that it will be Mond. Guess we will see if RK's source is right or wrong.

Reading Texags is like purposely putting head in the sand, or covering your ears and screaming at the top of your lungs while someone is trying to talk to you. Everything is always awesome, and some of those idiots actually are trying to make excuses for Sumlin to stay with seven wins this year.

They don't want to hear that the QB's are apparently terrible, with Starkel unable to separate from the pack. At this point it will be Mond, and Sumlin will try to sell the boosters on the future. If it is Hubenak, season is in the toilet before it even starts.

That's one way to look at it, but the other side of the coin is that if you have an offense that 3-and-outs all the time, like ours did constantly last season, it's impossible to field a good defense. I actually think our D would have been at least mediocre last year (instead of terrible) if the O hadn't kept them on the field for more snaps than any other college defense in America. QB performance is actually a defensive factor, in a round about way.

It's not going to be Mond. Mond is the living embodiment of the need for a redshirt year. With Mond, we'd have a stupidly limited playbook a la Kryler Murcry. You saw how that went.

It'll be Starkel. He's a pick machine, but he gives them the full playbook. He can make all the throws and can run the whole offense. He just has the turnover downside, which is why no one is super thrilled with him.

I agree with you on Hoobastank though. If the Czech kid trots out there, I'm just turning off the TV and waiting until I hear that Sumlin's been fired. Great guy, but the very definition of "practice squad".

But, that's not what I'm hearing. Still hearing Starkel.

If this happens, I'm taking up motherfricking knitting this fall.

No doubt, I said in another post that I only ever pick up premium is for the fall camp special where it's 2 or 3 weeks for a buck, just to see if the mob mentality of over sunshine pumping has changed, and it never does.

I agree with y'all on thinking it's going to be mond, sure he needs a redshirt season but if starkel hasn't distanced himself, which outside of on here, I haven't heard anybody else say. Then I'd think sumlin would go with mond for the running threat similar to knight, and to be able to sell the future to try to buy more years on his contract.

It is sad that I've seen a lot of people over there saying they would be fine with a 7-5 season and to give sumlin an extension.

Not full playbook. He would be ineffective in the zone read. DE can collapse every time on zone read if you have a scarecrow back there.

Mond needs to start to limit turnovers and control TOP. You scheme for your best players - Tray & Kirk - Mond will benefit Tray like Knight did and Kirk has no problem catching short passes and turning them into big gains. All 3 can make the mundane throws that will be heavily utilized no matter who is behind center so you go with

1. The guy who compliments your best players the most (mond) and
2. The most dynamic (mond)

The competition should be over if Starkel hasn't separated himself. He's been on the team for a year and a half. Also, there won't be a headline when the 3* transfers after a 5* came in a took the job but it will be when the 5* transfers. This really isn't as complex as people make it. FR QB's role - know playbook - recite play in huddle - hand ball to star RB or keep for a moderate game - throw 10yd (in air) pass to All American or HS teammate. Running also helps relax QBs. Which is why Kliff tended to start Johnny with a designed run or two on the first series

Of course all this is dependent on Starkel NOT separating himself. If he has like Hamm (lol poor guy) has said then good for us and him

If it's Mond might as well write off the season. He is dreadfully inaccurate and while he is mobile, he's not the natural runner Manziel or Knight we're. He is very rigid and upright in the open field, decent straight line speed but no wiggle.

He also needs to put on a little weight to fill out his frame. I wouldn't feel comfortable with him taking a bunch of shots this year

At the end of the day, the position is quarterback, aka "the guy who throws the ball."

Quod erat demonstrandum, the quarterback will not be Mond, because he really can't do that.

Look, guys, we tried the whole "play the little freshman running back masquerading as a quarterback" scheme a couple of years ago, remember? Remember Kyler Murray? That experiment went down like Linda Lovlace. He didn't know the offense, what little of the playbook we gave him was totally predictable, his inability to pass allowed defenses to focus on shutting down his scrambles, and in short, it sucked.

Mond has potential but he desperately needs time with a college staff working on his passing, time to learn the offense, reps, weight, and seasoning. We'd be doing him and the team a massive disservice if we played him now.

I think the fact that Starkle not yet being named the starter means he isn't any good.

Our LB play will be atrocious and we have no real depth at WR.

Let's just start Hubes so Sumlin and be fired and Mond redshirted. It's what's best in the long term.

Hubenak is a poor man's Dustin Long with the Mark Farris ability to turn the ball over on what would be the game-winning drive.

That's silly. Johnny wasn't named until two weeks before the season either.
