Morris has not won a NC as a coordinator. He left Clemson after 2014, before the NC appearance in 2015 and NC win in 2016

Was not aware of that but that makes Jimbo even more better choice than him

My concern is that he’ll be pissed we passed him over for Jimbo.

He'll probably bring it and end our streak over Arkansas soon.

I really wanted Chad to have taken a job in the Pac12 or ACC instead of the SEC. It'll be hard to root against Morris. Papa Aggy vs Aggy son.

I didn't realize it, but was just browsing the Arkansas board and noticed that they have not hired a DC yet. I thought Chavis had already taken that job.

LINK

The Hogs are thinking that Chavis could not be hired in that capacity until we hired his replacement or else Arkansas would be on the hook for his buyout.

Well, we have hired Elko, so that doesn't seem to be a concern anymore. But still no official word out of Fayetteville about Chavis.

Why would A&M buy him out knowing he’ll go to Arky? Reassign him for a year as you’ll have to pay him no matter what

Move him to a different position. Maybe defensive analyst.

The point is to make the hogs pay his buyout.

The contract we have with Chavis is for the assistant coach-defensive coordinator position. I don't think we can unilaterally decide to move him off field in order to avoid the buyout.

It’s already easy AF. He’s at pigU. I gots no love for ‘em, and wish nothing but pain and misery upon him and his new program. #nomercy

It's kind of strange if they are waiting around for us to officially fire a coach so they can hire him. Trying to remember when the last time a situation like that happened.

I think they are on the hook for $15 million with Bielema's buyout. Whatever it is, it's a pretty good chunk of change. Maybe their new AD is balking at any more buyouts.

Morris vowed to hire "the best DC in the country." All I'll say about that is that Chavis sure hasn't lived up to that kind of advertisement lately. The A&M defense is somewhat better now than he inherited it, but that isn't exactly saying a whole lot.

I personally think Morris is going to end up like Sumlin. Good recruiter, kills it in smaller schools, puts a decent team on the field, but in the end can't get over the hump. JM and the O-line is what made Sumlin look great in his first year in my opinion.

I'm really interested to see how Morris does. He didn't light the world on fire at SMU, but it's hard to imagine a coach walking into a worse situation. After June Jones' move to Arizona State fell apart in early 2013 (he was fired in late 2014), he basically stopped recruiting (rumor is he'd only scout players who proactively sent him film) and if the stats are any indication, he stopped coaching too. In other words, it was as if Morris took over a team coming off of 2 years of heavy probation and scholarship reductions. Given that, a bowl in year 3 is respectable.

Arkansas isn't a premier program, but they're also far from an SMU-level also-ran. A good coach can recruit and win there. I want to see what he can do

does arkansas not have any defensive recruits worth keeping? we could essentially keep chavis on staff until the 10th assistant is added, no?

and if chief beef is already recruiting for arkansas, then

If Chavis is technically still a member of the staff, but is also working and recruiting for Arkansas, would we have grounds for firing for cause due to breach of contract? Wouldn't owe him any buyout if so.

There is still no announcement that Arkansas has hired him. Could be some legal wrangling back and forth on this.

One of the most notable one signed early and told us we would be excited about the hire

He was doing that from the start. It just didn't catch up to him until he fully quit caring after the ASU rope a dope. All of his best players were either already signed from the last staff (Cole Beasley), on campus for other sports (Margus Hunt) or transferred in b/c he was friends with the kid's father (Garrett Gilbert).

Chavis/Morris at Arkansas. That experiment is going to be a flat failure.

That's a really shitty version of Chavis/Sumlin at A&M
