Wanted some thoughts on Chad Morris and I knew y'all have probably been looking at him more than any other fan base. Appears that he is a serious candidate with Arkansas, grows by the day. If the Jimbo deal didn't work out, would you be happy with him as the second target? Thanks

Morris has yet to show he can field a top-100 defense. He'd be Sumlin 2.0

I’m hearing that he is your guy, Good luck certainly can’t do any worse than Burt

The DC hire will be crucial. I wasn’t convinced we would play a more physical brand of football under him and thought he would be similar to Sumlin honestly
Biggest pro for Arkansas is he will probably recruit the hell out of Texas

The difference is Chad can run an offense. He's a Xs & Os guy. I think Chad is a guy worth taking a chance on. Sumlin was not (xs & os). Sumlin was the CEO and can build the brand in an effective manner.

Don't listen to these negative little frickers. Chad has a big upside, is capable of elite recruiting, and can put big offensive numbers up. He will need to find the right coordinators especially on the defensive side.

That is true, Morris will be much more hands on. I think Arkansas would get some really talented Texas players they haven’t been getting under Bert or even Petrino, put up big numbers offensively under him and make Bowl games every year. I just think there’s a hard ceiling on what you can accomplish with his offense in the SECW

Morris does not run an offense that looks much like what Bielema did, so there might be an initial hurdle in meshing what is already there in Fayetteville with what he wants to do. Of course, we might have that same issue next year with Fisher. You never know how quickly the new coach can adapt his system to the players, or his players to the system.
I think there would be a significant improvement across the board for the Hogs' offense. I believe he would win more games than Bielema. He has a good reputation with Texas high school coaches, particularly in East Texas, which would benefit him on the recruiting trail.
Whether he would win big there would probably depend on the success/failure of his choice to run the defense.

I believe most fans are ok with this atm and embrace a change. The most serious candidates for the position were all offense focused.

Great hire. Morris is going to do very well at Arkansas. He is going to be scary now that he has a real budget to work with. You'll also have a great time watching Aggie heads implode when Chad takes down Jimbo ending our winning streak

Oh, I can't wait for that week. We will lose by TD in OT (crazy I know) and some of our fan base will believe he threw the game on purpose for his alma mater.

Damn. Morris will be able to make an impact on recruiting in Texas. He probably won't bring a bunch of 5*s, but there is a be a handful of 3 & 4 stars that would not consider Arky will now with Morris's connections in Texas.

Morris is also the man who recruited Deshaun Watson to Clemson. He can identify and recruit talent to the QB position. Will be interesting to see who he targets in the coming days.

so does this mean we are about to lose 6 straight to the pigs?
ETA: while i was never sold on chad morris for a&m, primarily because the track record just isn't there yet, i genuinely do not want him coaching in the west and having to play him every year if that tells you anything.

Rumors on FootballScoop say he is going to hire Venables as his DC.
We might start getting our asses kicked by Pig fellas.

Sources tell us to expect Morris to target Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables for his defensive coordinator spot on staff. If Morris could land Venables, it would be huge news in the coaching world.

Why in the world would Venables take another DC position?

Would be great but about a .0000000000001% chance of happening

according to posters on tRant radio saying he would be getting $2m+ to be the Arky DC.
